J. Bally Brut de Fût 2004
Highly praised dark, woody agricole with powerful glue, cherry and roasted notes. Complex, dry and tannic, rewarding patience and aeration for those who enjoy intense, old-school profiles.
Fans of dry, oak-driven agricoles who enjoy glue/varnish aromatics, dark chocolate, coffee and cherries at robust cask strength and appreciate spending time letting a rum open up in the glass.

How does this rum taste?
Dark, woody, gluey Bally powerhouse
If you enjoy serious, oak-heavy agricoles like older Bally or Saint James, this pushes that style darker and drier with gluey cherry and coffee tones that many RumX members find addictive.
Newcomers, anyone sensitive to bitterness or high ABV, and drinkers who prefer soft, sweet, low-wood profiles with minimal solvent or tannic notes.
This 1999 Bally is a must-taste for all lovers of rhum agricole. The texture is thick, full-bodied and very progressive. Yummy!

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 25,000 bottlings, 280,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 50,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

Vieux Bally's nose is marked by tangy red fruits such as redcurrants and blackcurrants, and even raspberry vinegar. These aromas mask the very dark side of this rum. On the palate, the aromas follow on from one another, starting with tart red fruit and gradually increasing in intensity, before turning abruptly to darker flavors: cocoa, coffee, roasted nuts and plenty of spice. The finish is medium to long, with darker aromas. This rum needs a lot of time to open up. A price that seems to me very fair for an agricole of this level and age, given what's being released today...

Close frop the cane but also dark, powerful, intense, old school woody spirit as an old cognac or an old Speyside sherried whisky, that's splendid.
