How does this rum taste?
- Distinct woody and spicy aroma
- Smooth and round flavor profile
- Suited for rum and whiskey lovers
Karukera's Black Edition Alligator rum is an intriguing Guadeloupean spirit, beloved for its distinct profile reminiscent of whiskey and bourbon, thanks to its column still distillation and 4-year aging process in heavily charred barrels. Users appreciate its woody and spicy aroma, complemented by notes of dried and tropical fruits. The palate reveals woody and spicy flavors, with nuances of vanilla and coffee, creating a smooth and round experience. Despite its moderate complexity, it's praised for its balance, making it suitable for both rum enthusiasts and whiskey lovers. However, some note that its intensity leans heavily on toasted notes, limiting the palette's diversity.

"Bought this Rhum from Catawiki to a very good price together with some other bottles. Karukera is produced by the Esperance distillery in Guadeloupe that also produces Longuetau. Karukera is the name the indigenous people called their island which means 'The island of beautiful waters'. It’s distilled in the distillery’s column still, but the details how it has been aged differs, some says for seven years in French bourbon and cognac barrels others says five years in new charred barrels. Maybe there are two different ones. Overall a super smooth and round Rhum that probably is a very good introduction to Rhum from Guadeloupe."
