How does this rum taste?
RumX members love the roasted, toasted profile from heavy charred oak: coffee, faint smoke, woody spice with hints of vanilla and caramel. At 45%, it’s smooth and round, an easy‑drinking 4‑year agricole from Karukera that whisky/bourbon fans often appreciate. While some call it simple with a medium finish, its balanced warmth has earned strong approval across 80 reviews, making it a solid, popular choice.

Bought this Rhum from Catawiki to a very good price together with some other bottles. Karukera is produced by the Esperance distillery in Guadeloupe that also produces Longuetau. Karukera is the name the indigenous people called their island which means 'The island of beautiful waters'. It’s distilled in the distillery’s column still, but the details how it has been aged differs, some says for seven years in French bourbon and cognac barrels others says five years in new charred barrels. Maybe there are two different ones. Overall a super smooth and round Rhum that probably is a very good introduction to Rhum from Guadeloupe.
Pleasant rum, but nothing more.
08.01.2022 Nice little tasting at my home with a few colleagues. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Light wood, fresh, orange, light citrus, nutts, light mint. Palate Light wood, faint smoke, nutts, orange, spicy, citrus, sugarcane, light vegetal. Finish Medium long, light wood, roasted, sugarcane, medium spicy, light chocolate.
No. 2 of the advent calendar of La Route des Rhums. Another good agricole, not much in this calendar. This one is again very woody and spicy, some vanilla is recognizable, as well as dark chocolate.
