"This release was bottled between 2002 and 2005 and it's virtually impossible to get your hands on one today. A very nice edition from Zacapa that also explodes in your mouth. They have released XO versions since this one but they're not an exact match though pretty close. "

"Nose is an explosion of flavors. Funky with esters, fruits and ample notes of solvents and marzipan. Also quite some wood once you are past the chemical notes. Compared to the 2010 release, this is much more mature, dark and closed up at the beginning. While you get full ester goodness, this is more balanced compared to the 2010 and less agreesiv (comparatively that is, of course!) Very nice on the palate as well. This is - in the most possible way - soft, balanced and elegant. Yet don’t take this wrong. There is still plenty of funk. Complex fruits (tropical as well as dried - I get some cherry here) mingling with wood and esters. This is very rich and the long tropical aging delivers brilliantly, presenting a dark and heavy rum without being overly wood forward or bitter in the slightest. Excellent! On the palate the 2010 is more playful and the ester notes are much more punchy. Much more adstringent and „in your face“. Both brilliant but rather different sipping experiences old and dark versus funk forwards. Both great. Compared to the younger 2005 NRJ bottling, both clearly share the same DNA. The additional years of tropical aging clearly transformed the profile towards darker and woody notes. Esters are much more tamed with dried fruits being more present in the mix."

"Very round, if you want to give this attribute to the distillate's lack of expression. I am left with little more than astonishment that this product - which is undeniably pleasant to drink - was once described as the best of the best in the rum sector. Yes, this assessment is highly subjective; but if you take even half the aromatic complexity of other distillates as a criterion, this earlier classification seems hardly comprehensible. However: subjectively speaking, I think the distillate is overrated, but I don't begrudge anyone the pleasure that they individually associate with it."

"Very good Foursquare (i would say better as the 2007). Spicy and oaky like a classic foursquare with a dominant note of cocoa. Nose: Glue, Oak, Spicy, Vanilla, coconut, trop fruits, dried fruits, raisin Mouth: Warm, Complex, balanced, full bodied, strong, round, trop. fruits, caramel, spicy, oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted, tobacco Finish: Medium, tobacco, coconut, sweet, toffee, roasted, cocoa, vanilla, toated, oak, coffee"

"Many think this is a version of the traditional Zacapa XO, but it's actually been stored for two additional years in French cognac casks. A super smooth rum that literally explodes in your mouth. "

"This is a retasting with the RumX guys. ----- This is a Jamaica rum on steroids, not only because of the ABV, but also the profile itself. Many will probably need to add water because it's like a hammer of flavours. Make sure to rest it for a good while or it will bite, shred and spit you out in a flash. From pouring the nose already reveals where it's from and it just gets better from there. A very intense and complex rum with an oily touch to the palate. Nice fruitiness and I really like the marzipan note in there. Price to quality is pretty good 😊"

"This is yet another release from the Tributo series and again a wonderful rum. I love the box it comes in. Complex and very well balanced with a bit of dried fruit and spices topped off with oak and tobacco. Very well done and it may be a bit expensive but it is also limited to 2500 bottles worldwide. "

"This is a pretty sweet rum but the balance between the elements is pretty good. Would have liked a higher ABV because I think it would have benefitted this rum. The empty glass has really nice flavours."

"Die 2023er Abfüllung ist mal wieder on top.. für mich kommt sie in die Nähe der Habiation Velier Abfüllung. In der Nase nicht ganz so präsent wie diese, aber am Gaumen so gut wie ebenbürtig . Direkt einen Cocktail gemixt (Mojito) und ein echtes Geschmackserlebnis gehabt. So müssen die weißen HERR sein 🤩"

"Classic Foursquare! I am thoroughly enjoying this one, which has a lovely mouthfeel which is quite oily/creamy. It has quite a nose on it. On the palate I am getting coconut, vanilla, wood, and a natural sweetness in the background. I prefer this over the 2010 with a superior nose and mouthfeel."

"I prefer the Pagos 2023 over the last years edition. This has more „Hampden“ power and the Sherry barrel is integrated much better (due the change of the barrels… maybe?) and the sherry stays more in the background like a faithful campanion and fit perfect with the Hampden flavours. Grilled pineapple meets sour cherries overwhelmed by esters 🤤🥃 The alcohol is very present, i would say typical for a young Hampden."

"Retasting this one today and I stick to my initial score. Typical Agricole with fruits, floral and fresh grass notes. You gat all the flavours as soon as you open the bottle. Leave for 15 minutes and then nose it. Leave the glass for a few hours after finishing it and it's even better on the nose. Price to quality is extremely good."

"On the nose, the 2006s are overall - unsurprisingly - quite similar. Dried fruit, subtle spicy and woody notes - perhaps the most obvious caramel note in a direct comparison should be emphasized here. On the palate the obligatory prune, distinct smokiness, leather, licorice, wood, again caramel sweetness - compared to the other 2006s most smokiest. Aromatically quite with appealing complexity. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of overly roasted or smoky flavors, but if that appeals to you as much as the REV profile, you should get your money's worth here. For me, it's a bit too much roastiness as well as medicinal alcoholic spiciness on the palate. For the comparison to the 1994 representatives, I repeat my impressions of the other 2006s: much less heaviness, the plum notes appear here more in tandem with currant, the dark tones of wood, licorice, leather and caramel are much less pronounced. I am inclined - despite the aromatic complexity of this bottling - to speak of "REV Light." While the spectrum of 2006s also has its charm and the character is undeniably recognizable, in my eyes the REV profile benefits extremely from the long aging and resulting complexity. However, the reference points can also be described as almost unfair for the younger bottlings, especially for proven lovers of the 1994 REVs."

Palate Oily, light wood, faint roasted, fruits, faint herbs, light anise, faint nutts, naturally sweet. Finish Medium long, round, naturally sweet, light caramel, faibt anise, dried fruit. Already ordered 2 bottles due for release this coming Saturday 😊 In the morning the empty glass has light chocolate and really nice prunes."

"Nice rum, but a little under compared to batch1. The presence of a slight solvent note I liked less and it is less intense. However, we are talking about finesse and personal taste. We are dealing with a rum that I would drink all the time! I do not understand all these new versions of Hampden Velier that I find little different from each other and especially pòco justified in terms of value for money. Velier lately is focusing too much on collectors with the result of making the bottles unobtainable already upon release and overpriced."

"Retasting and I stick to my older score. Very popular among the other tasters and the story of how it came to be was really cool. ----- Old tasting note below ----- I do like a navy rum and this is a nice blend actually. Stille doesn't beat my favourite Black Tot 50th and Master Blander edition. Medium heavy navy rum with oak and spices. Nice warm and spicy on the palate. There is a hint of smoke and solvents, but the overall balance is pretty good actually. Price to quality is very good."

"Had a retaste and this time I had the right cigar to go with it and wow what a difference, this is truly a mix well worth a try even though the cigar is slightly expensive and hard to get. Just decided to crack open this wonderful bottle and I regret not having a Cohiba Piramides to go with it. I know it was made to match the Cohiba Siglo VI, but that is too heavy a cigar for me :-) A cooperation between master blender Asbel Morales and cigar sommelier Fernando Fernández and they made something out of this world. A wonderful deep and elegant masterpiece that has a long, warm and elegant balanced finish. A rum worthy of the price tag and then some!"

"Super price for a solid molasses from Reunion. Still smells a little musty but the rum opens up very nicely on the palate. 83/100 Second tasting: Nose again strawberry, marshmellow. On the palate again this musty cellar note. Blindly I can only rate this rum 78/100."

"Edit: Here, too, the rest is destroyed with cola. No real clear winner to be seen Comparison between the two ABV bombs from Romdeluxe. What can I say, you don't need to take a big sip of either. Both are truly absolute ester explosions. At some point you lose track of all the aromas and flavors you have discovered. Unfortunately, after tasting them two or three times, I can no longer really distinguish between them because of all the flavor explosions. In conclusion, both have charm and there is no real favorite for me."

"Long Pond TECC ..., this strong marrow fascinates me again and again, as it does now! The nose is impetuous, full of esters, glue, yeast and fresh sugar cane. On the palate it is creamy and intense. Ester, glue, bitter orange, allspice and umami spread out. The alcohol is quite well integrated. The esters and bitter orange continue on the finish. Great I'm already looking forward to a daiquiri with it"

"26-27.01.2024 Hanse Spirits. Retasting this and I still thing this is a very good rum at the price tag. ------------------- This one was a huge surprise so I'll have to get a few for my tastings. Price to quality is very good and a must try for most. Try to add a piece of lime zest and the rum just comes to life. We tried a new unfinished version that was over 70% and it was even better. That one I'd be interested in as well 😂"

Top review from TheRhumhoe:

"For me, clearly the strongest of the three current Windmill bottlings. As if you put your nose in a bag of butterscotch candies (86 points) and lick with your tongue at liquid, still warm caramel (82 points). Really extraordinary in its uniqueness, how do you get something like that without additives!?very high recognition value."

"#4452 04.11.2023 preparing a tasting for next weekend for a group of 4. All rums are in the "war" spectrum 😂 I'd call this and infinity rum because it's been bemlended from many different releases across the spectrum from unaged to Caroni. Pretty good for the price. Medium fruity with caramel and caramel. The finish is medium long and sweet."

"Oh, you can do that when you're sitting with friends and reminiscing about visits to Cuba. Then the bottle is empty by the end of the evening, because this typical Cuban rum (certainly with added sugar) is dangerously drinkable. A souvenir from my 41st visit to Cuba in 2019 and emptied yesterday at the best opportunity, so it has stayed with me unopened for a long time."

"This is an interesting rum. The rye barrel is clearly noticeable in both the nose and the mouth through its spiciness. When I bought it, I thought that this spiciness would provide a good counterbalance to the sweet rum aromas. But somehow it doesn't fit and the result is not well-rounded. Much better on the nose than in the mouth. This rum is interesting, but is it also tasty? - If it were up to me, probably not."
