"I finally got the last and now have the complete set from 2016 - 2020. This is a very intense rum with tannins, smoke and oak well balanced with dried fruit. A masterpiece created by Asbel Morales, Master of Cuban rum, all casks have been hand selected and blended. Because it's limited to 2500 bottles, the price may seem high, but believe me when I say that this is a masterpiece well worth a very good habanero cigar. The price tag matches the rarity and quality. "

"A great start to the tasting evening! Of course, this is unmistakably a Dominican, but an unusually strong one, without the alcohol being noticeable at all. A few drops of water make it even more accessible, with apricot and barrel notes in balance. Not my preferred style, but certainly drinkable and therefore recommended for special occasions - if you don't have to watch the pennies ... (bottle price now exorbitantly high)"

"28.03.2015 Whiskymessen Out for myself this time and met up with new enthusiasts and we had a great party after the event. Notes Very dark in colour. Nose Wood, roasted, nutts, fruity, dried fruit, earthy, light sitrus. Palate Balance, sweet, wood, roasted, faint citrus, light chocolate, faint coffee, orange. Finish Medium to long, wood, roasted, light caramel, orange, light coffee, light chocolate."

"Good 12-year-old Agricole that offers everything you could wish for despite the low %. The grassy notes are discreetly restrained here. Extremely round and balanced overall, I would strongly recommend it to beginners as an Agricole starter. Unfortunately not quite cheap."

"Un rhum goûté au Lucerne Rum and Gin Festival en 2024. Un nez avec des fruits, de l’ananas trop mûr, des fruits rouges, du menthol et du vernis. L’attaque est sage avec des fruits, beaucoup de fruits et du bois verni. La finale, harmonieuse, est longue et fruitée. Pamplemousse rose et fruits rouges surtout. Une découverte et un rhum qui ne plaît beaucoup, malheureusement le prix est à mon avis excessif."

"Had a retaste and this time I had the right cigar to go with it and wow what a difference, this is truly a mix well worth a try even though the cigar is slightly expensive and hard to get. Just decided to crack open this wonderful bottle and I regret not having a Cohiba Piramides to go with it. I know it was made to match the Cohiba Siglo VI, but that is too heavy a cigar for me :-) A cooperation between master blender Asbel Morales and cigar sommelier Fernando Fernández and they made something out of this world. A wonderful deep and elegant masterpiece that has a long, warm and elegant balanced finish. A rum worthy of the price tag and then some!"

"This nice sipper has to rest for a while before nosing or you'll get a punch of alcoholic blast. The nose is wonderfully smooth even velvety I'd say. Smoky wood and fruity with toffee and spices. The palate is complex and very well balanced with smoky oak and spices and a hint of the cognac cask it was finished in. The finish is long and sweet with spices and coffee and once again a hint of the cognac cask."

"for over 1000€ 0.5 liters of rum and then not even a proper age statement is a cheek. the thing is just a prestige object nothing more, the only thing that costs money here is the valuable bottle design. taste but not much better than pampero anniversario, millonario XO etc... for the money you could easily buy 15 single casks... pity! very pity!"

"Though the ABV is relatively low they have still managed to put a lot of flavour into this release. I'd say the nose is light and elegant at the same time. Good balance between the elements in the profile. Can't stop wondering what it would have turned out at a higher ABV."

In this complex rum, aromas of toasted cereals, fermented rice and soy sauce can also be detected, with a highly concentrated balsamic edge underlined by nuts. Aeration adds an extremely chocolatey character, coffee with complex cocoa nourished by sweet chili, soy sauce, rancio, nuts, with an oxidized side reminiscent of sherry. The finish drifts naturally onto dried fruit, dark currants and a hint of iodine. 8:On the palate, we find exactly the same profile as on the nose, with a mellowness that now makes it very gourmand. Caramel plays an important role, as does molasses, and these two essential ingredients are tinged with fermented rice, cereals and then more pastry notes like vanilla. 7,8:The finish gives the impression of a rather round rum, still complex and typically Japanese in its rice-oriented style. Very nice surprise, I recommend it, it is really different."

"#4041 If you're lucky you can get this bottle for around 750.- euro. Sweet and fruity with a bit more on the spices than the others. Love the caramel and nutty notes in this profile. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass is really nice and I can pick up some very light wine/grape notes."

"Enjoying this rum yet again and I still love it. This is one of the few rums carrying the AOC certification! A dry but very complex and well balanced rhum Agricole. The single column copper still in which it was made has given it a lot of flavours not available in normal stills A masterpiece of rum made from molasses showing that with love and care you can make a well aged Rhum Agricole from molasses."

"Another retasting and a few points lost. I'd say that this release is a step up from the 1988. Better balanced, more complex and beter rounded. The nose is very fruity from pouring with roasted nuts and coffee. After airing you get some catamel and spice. The palate is complex yet very well balanced and true to the nose with fruits, sweet vanilla and toasted wood. The feeling on the palate is a velvety lightly warm rum. There is a lot of wood on the palate but not too dominant. The finish is medium to long with dried fruit, nuts and wood. Price to quality can be discussed but I think this is a collectible for many."

"Got this 5cl sample in my second batch from Rum Ratings Tasting Club and participated in the virtual tasting yesterday. The Abuelo XII Two Oaks is a 12yo rum stored in two different types of oak barrels. First on traditional Tennessee whiskey / bourbon casks during 11 years, and then a final storage on deep-fried casks of new American white oak. It’s produced from both molasses and sugar cane juice by Varela Hermanos. The sugar content is 24 gpl, so it’s sweet but not extremely sweet."

"This is a medium priced rum and they did pretty well. A very flavourful rum with lots of wooden notes and fruit. Not too sweet, but nicely balanced and medium complexity. Price to quality is very good. "

The Abuelo XV Oloroso is 15 years old and is first matured in American oak casks to be finished in Oloroso Sherry casks. Overall it’s very sweet, natural or not, read somewhere that a hydrometer test gave 44 gpl. The finish is medium long. "

"This one is slightly better than the Eximo and the first thing is that this one has g far more wood to it. I guess many wont like the woody notes. The nose is fruity with vanilla followed by coconut and caramel. A hint of sherry is there as well. The palate is balanced and sweet with fruit and vanilla. Caramel, molasses and sherry follows. Here the oak really hits you, seriously. The finish is also full of oak, sweet and fruity with spices. Looking at the price the Eximo is the better option considering price to quality. "

"I got this one as a birthday present yesterday and it is the fourth year I now have. Only one missing now is the 2020 version. This master piece by Asbel Morales, Don José Navarro and Salomé Aleman (the first female Maestro del Ron Cuban!). A magnificent blend of base rums from 1970s, 1990s and 2010s and then blended with a rum that has rested in French oak barrels for 25. A truly magnificent masterpiece. "

"Edit: als Mixer ausprobiert und was soll ich sagen für 40€ im Sale ein NoBrainer! Hätte ich mal alle Flaschen aufgekauft Zufällig im Sale bei Whisky-maniac entdeckt und beschlossen, dass er etwas für einen Underdog Split sein könnte. Aus Salvador hatte ich noch nie etwas im Glas, deshalb fehlt der Vergleich. Fazit aber für mich ein guter Schnapper. Für 39,90€ kann man nicht meckern. Besser als gedacht."

"#4038 This one is also a sweet rum in really good balance. It come with a price tag above 1250.- euro so a hefty dent in your wallet. Sweet and fruity where especially cherry can be singled out. Roasted wood compliments the profile with some added smoke especially in the finish. This one also draws really nice curtains and in the empty glass i can pick up light chocolate and some coconut."

"Delicious specimen, with lots of caramel/honey and an ingenious roasted note of coffee and chocolate. Once you've identified the marzipan note, it runs right through! Also fruity in many ways (lychee/mango?), subtly sweet and very round. Goes down like oil 😋 For even more points, this rum would need more complexity, although I have to say that there are still some components that I can't quite put my finger on. You have to give this rum a few minutes to breathe. Compared to other Cihuatans, it stands out somewhat."

"Oha, ich hab keinen Plan, was ich da erwischt habe. Ein Rum ist es jedenfalls nicht, schmeckt aber trotzdem ganz gut. Hat ja auch nur 18 Umdrehungen. Ich würde sagen, mit Cola 1:1 gemischt ergibt das einen leckeren Longdrink. Pur ist er auch lecker, ziemlich süss, aber halt kein Rum."
