"I was very lucky today. I stumbled upon this extremely rare bottle when picking up my latest samples and bottles. I was allowed to buy a sample, it set me back 90,- euro, but I didn't regret it. One of the best rums I have sampled in the last 30+ years. The nose is there from the start, a wonderful fruity, smoky vanilla mix. The palate was one og the most well balanced i have ever had, not too much or too little of anything. Wow, just wow. The finish lingers on what seems like forever...... 5 generations and 130+ years and this is what you get, PERFECTION! "

"This is a great rum by dictador. I love the two masters editions because they're different from the main line "Best of". The nose hits you with fruit and vanilla from the start and the tramscends to butterscotch and tobacco and cognac at the end of it all. The palate is both complex and balanced as well as slightly dry and sweet , which I like. Chocolate, nutmed and nuts get you from the start, then moves on to tea, tobacco and lestje with sone oak in there. The finish is long, sweet and slightly dry yet velvety in a way with spices and a hint of oak. "

"This one is also a great vintage from Dictador and if you get a chance have a sample. The nose has peat, vanilla and the whisky barrel it was matured in. In the back there is a nice smoky oak note. The palate is complex and soft with spices and toffee in the front and smoky oak in the back. The finish is long and has spices and roasted oak to it. "

"Al naso è accogliente con melassa, caramello, pelle e lieve cacao/caffè. Al palato è leggero e setoso, con sentori di caramello e di barile, nel finale caffè e qualche spezia. Finale molto leggero però estremamente rotondo. Piacevole. Nel bicchiere vuoto melassa, cacao e caffè"

"I usually don't really like these sugared Spanish-style rums and I even doubt that the age statements of the Malteco rum-line can be trusted but the 'vintages' from them are very, very tasty and I like them a lot. Update: Now too thin for me, good daily sipper though."

"One of the perks of having a huge collection of rums is that sometimes you get surprised. I sent a picture to the destillery of my Dictador collection and they mailed me a sample of this incredibly expensive release. One I would never have bought. The rum plays all the tingles in my nose and palate, but though very good it doesn't match the price. Wonderfully fruity and lots of spices. Sweet with smoky oak, yum. I love the handmade decanter they have designed for this special release. "

"Thinking about the price tag on this bottle you get a lot for your buck! The nose is fruity with roasted wood, sugarcane and vanilla and if you leave the empty glass you will also pick up a lovely chocolate note. The palate is also fruity with roasted wood, vanilla, chocolate and a hint of tobacco. The finish is medium long with wood, fruits, spices and a bit of tobacco."

"I love silver seal and this one is another great one I tried the other day at one of my suppliers. The nose is fruity with spices and I also get some roasted notes. The palate is fruity with spices and some nice pepper. Bitter chocolate honey and a nice shot of oak is there as well. The finish is long and warm lightly bitter with fruit and toasted oak. "

"A nice surprise with a lot of smoke on the nose and barely any smoke on the palate. The barrel is there from nose to finish. Pretty well balanced. The price is pretty high for such a young rum."

Top review from Jonathan Massard:

"Had a retaste and this time I had the right cigar to go with it and wow what a difference, this is truly a mix well worth a try even though the cigar is slightly expensive and hard to get. Just decided to crack open this wonderful bottle and I regret not having a Cohiba Piramides to go with it. I know it was made to match the Cohiba Siglo VI, but that is too heavy a cigar for me :-) A cooperation between master blender Asbel Morales and cigar sommelier Fernando Fernández and they made something out of this world. A wonderful deep and elegant masterpiece that has a long, warm and elegant balanced finish. A rum worthy of the price tag and then some!"

"Once rested this becomes a pretty good release. Fruity and nutty with wood and very light roasted notes. I like the caramel in the profile because it's subtle but adds something to the profile. Balanced and oily on the palate and very nice curtains in the glass. The empty glass was amazing after an hour or so."

Top review from crazyforgoodbooze:
"Clearly milder and more drinkable than the 11y old without finish. The additional 20 months in the Armagnac finish have softened the rum perfectly and taken him some of the edges. The 11y is clearly more funky and intense, this one is clearly more harmonious but still with enough power. Exciting are the light peachy / apricot notes with eucalyptus and dark chocolate with cappuccino, cinnamon, nutmeg and nuts, as well as some lemon zest and at the very end comes back to me the characteristic menthol / grapefruit peel note. I also like very well, almost a little better depending on the mood!😁🥳Anyway, both bottlings are imho absolute Mauritius Gray's benchmarks!👌🏽"

"#4039 I have tried many of the two masters and they're usually pretty good but sweet and the price tag pretty hefty. This one is no different, sweet and fruity with nicely balanced ABV and a nice floral note in the back. Draws extremely nice curtains and the empty glass is really nice and I can get some licorice and pastries. If you're lucky you can find a bottle around 1000,- euro."

"Blindtaste Foursquare A. OB Isonomy, 17y, 2005, 58% B. OB 2007, 12y, 59% C. Kill Devil 2007, 14y, 63,4% Foursquare used to be my favourite distillery, but after a while I felt that most of the releases started to taste the same, too safe, and I lost much of my passion for the distillery. In front of me I had 3 glasses. I named them A, B and C. RUM C C: Dark gold. N: Coconuts and something else, pineapple and vinegar perhaps. More complex than RUM A and B. 20min. More settled with lots of coconuts. I also get burnt sugar and pineapple. Best nose of the three. Nice balance. M: Burnt peaches, pineapples, and lemons. Less sweet than A and B, but as with the nose, more balanced and mature. F: Long and fruity. My Guess: OB 2007 RUM C: Kill Devil 2007. I was wrong."

"This was another nice surprise coming at you with a dark colour and wonderful nose from opening the bottle. The nose is sweet and fruity with smoky wood, spices and chocolate. Tha palate is intense, complex and well balanced as well ans sweet with smoky oak, leather, anise, licorice leather and light tobacco. The finish is very long, dry and fruity with smoke, vanilla and caramel. Try to nose the empty glass after a few hours then the chocolate and spices really bloom."

"This is a nice Port Mourant and I like the heavy nose with a lot of flavours being released after 15+ minutes of rest. Ester, coffee and herbs moving towards a medicinal nose. The palate is also kind of heavy with a floral touch, fruits and leather follows and still has a medicinal note. The finish is long and warm and you can clearly taste the sherry from the 5 year sherry cask finish. "

"Thanks to the slightly increased alcohol content a little more exciting than the standard bottlings, without really being able to inspire. The aromatic spectrum remains narrowly limited to typical notes of the Spanish style, without setting a particular highlight. Can not really inspire me, unfortunately."

"Considering the price for this bottle i was a bit disappointed, because the two master series usually delivers. The nose is sweet and fruity with honey, vanilla, chocolate and a touch of wine. The palate is also sweet with raisins, honey, chocolate, vanilla and wine as well as a touch of coffee and wood. The finish is medium long and sweet with dried fruit, chocolate and very light toffee. The empty glass will give even clearer notes after and hour or so."

"#4272 28.09.2023 One of the samples from the Whisky N Rum Show in Copenhagen. Price to quality is pretty OK on this one. A fresh and fruity rum with light ester notes. The palate is naturally sweet and oily with fruity notes and a spicy touch. The finish is medium to long and sweet. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass has some licorice."

"What is an evening without a Silver Seal Navy rum? Exactly, not a real Silver Seal evening. This is year another pretty good Navy blend. Well balanced and a nice and warm touch to the palate. The vanilla and citrus notes are very faint but there. Price to quality is pretty good in my mind."

"Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the last of the six. This is by far the most expensive Dictador in this tasting and the bottle is also very hard to get. This bottle definitely deserves the name "Masters" because it is perfectly balanced between alcohol, fruit, sweet and acidity. A rum without added sugar and aged for 45 years with a finish in Jerez Sherry casks. Expensive and hard to get but we'll worth the money. "

"What is in the smell, you will also find in the taste. In terms of texture and strength, the aroma and taste are perfectly balanced, so the flavors are also highly concentrated, which is great. Cedar wood, leather and chocolate dominate. Licorice, bittersweet, a hint of acid in the aftertaste 👍😁"

"#4042 This was the final one and if you're lucky you can buy this one for around 1000.- euro. Sweet and a bit more complex in the profile than the others. Sweet and fruity with nicely balanced wood. I really like the caramel and flowery note in the profile. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass is really nice and I can pick up some strawberry."

"Un rhum dominicain nouvellement importé en Suisse. Un nez de ron typique avec du boisé du caramel et de la vanille. Une bouche équilibrée avec des fruits secs en plus et une belle amertume qui contrebalance la douceur. Une finale assez longue avec comme un goût de cola. Un rhum réussi !"

"This is, in my mind, the normal 30 on steroids and in a good way. A very smooth and easy to drink rum. The nose has oak, coffee and orange to it with sweet honey and caramel. The palate is balanced with oak, orange and citrus followed by sweetness from caramel, brown sugar and chocolate. It's very obvious that the finishing cask was sherry and I love that finish. The finish is long and has oak, sherry and orange to it. "

"Diese süßwürzige Aromatik in der Nase ist speziell und gefällt mir sehr gut - leichte Anklänge von Jamaika mit den Aromen von Ester sind nicht von der Hand zu weisen. Der Alkohol ist wirklich gut eingebunden und bringt die einzelnen Geschmackskomponenten kräftig voran. Diesen Rum sollte man pur im Glas genießen. Er ist sehr lecker und gefährlich süffig. Aber Achtung, er ist fassstark."
