Engenhos do Norte 970 Single Cask Edition Selected by RA
Fruity, grassy, and herbaceous rum with a winey backbone.
Vividly combines the grassy punch of agricole with fruitcake-like dried fruits and a gentle winey overlay; the well-integrated warmth stays present. One to try if you enjoy both sugarcane and Madeira-style complexity.

How does this rum taste?
- Komplexes Zusammenspiel von fruchtigen und pflanzlichen Aromen
- Sehr gute ABV-Integration
- Sehr gourmant und konzentriert
RumX tasters spot Madeira hallmarks right away: vibrant sugarcane and grassy agricole mingle with prunes, dried dates, and a clear wine influence—“intensiv nach Madeira Wein, Dörrpflaume” (crazyforgoodbooze). Mint, menthol, and woody spice build complexity, with “bâton de réglisse und caramel trop cuit” (Jonathan Massard) and hints of caramel or honey here and there. A steady, mouth-coating warmth (“schöne Fruchtnoten und eine sehr angenehme Süße” - Zucker und Zeste) balances the young, vegetal notes. While some find a touch of roughness or sharpness, most agree the ABV is well integrated and the overall impression is both gourmand and intriguing.

"Great rum from Engenhos do Norte. Round, balanced and simply delicious."
"I have tried a few of these and the bar is pretty high. In general very few bottles leave the island and I usually get access through a friend going on holiday 😊 A nice medium dry and fruity rum with very good ABV integration. Good balance between the individual elements and a very long finish. Draws really nice curtains and the empty glass has the most wonderful flavours after a while."
"In the nose, we feel at once the sugar cane. By insisting a little, mixed with alcohol, one guesses floral aromas like the rose.in mouth, the aromas of sugar cane impose themselves then arrives a green pepper which lasts. The wood, young remains present throughout the tasting. The final, average, remains on the heat of the green pepper. The wood associated with the sugar cane gives impressions of liquorice. A good rum, rather simple and young, which makes think of Madeira."
"Very vinous/sherry nose, grapes, dried fruit, toasty aromas. Nevertheless, the floral Agricole notes such as sugar cane, fresh and earthy do not come up short. In the mouth and finish actually very similar to the nose, but with less fruit and instead more Agricole influence. Sherry lingers here for a long time as well. Also spiciness in the form of ginger, but always accompanied by sweetness from Madeira wine barrels. Pretty round thing!"
