How does this rum taste?
The Wild Series Rum Trinidad No. 14, distilled in 2009 from molasses at T.D.L. in Trinidad, offers a robust and complex profile. Aged 12 years and bottled at a potent 64.7% ABV, this cask-strength rum presents a blend of woody, flowery aromas with hints of raisin, mint, and toffee. Tangy tropical fruit flavors dominate the palate, underlined by notes of barrel, leather, and vanilla, delivering an intense yet balanced experience. While some users find it a tad strong, its minty, herbal undertones and rich smoky notes garner high praise, marking it as a noteworthy addition to any rum aficionado's collection. Available as a limited edition with only 271 bottles, it offers a unique tasting journey in every sip.

Today there is a fine T.D.L Battle at a high level. CDI 2003, 19yo bottles for 1802: Very refreshing, with lots of mint, eucalyptus, light fruits. Grapes and a fresh woody bitter note. Nice long and warm finish. Second tasting: -1 point Romdeluxe 2009: This is completely different. Much darker fruit, much more roasted aromas, but less mint. Creamy in the mouth with candied fruit. Great rum. +1 point
Nose: intense with herbs and smokey notes. Rather closed-up on the first go. Palate: Very intense with herbs, wood and some dirty notes. Not quite on par with the early 2000s, but very nice profile nonetheless.
Fourth tasting in direct comparison with RA 2002 and RDL Wild Series No42: the other two are clearly more intense, therefore downgraded to 86 Third tasting from the almost empty bottle: intense cassis notes even stronger than in the Private Garden No 1 (RX13297). I stand by my high rating, this rum is a stunner! Second tasting: incredible similarity to the RA Trinidad 2002! The nose is very similar to Foursquare with vanilla and candied fruits and additional notes such as licorice, mint and very distant flowers and iodine. In the mouth, the caramel tones predominate at first with an intense sweetness, but these are quickly overlaid by wood and tannins. The rum is very complex and "fat" and also offers a slightly "dirty" side. In the finish, the flavors come together again and form a beautiful interplay The barrel influences, sweetness and the "dirty" notes are dominant.
On the nose I have vanilla, dried fruit blackberry and chocolate...some mint. On the palate blackberries and chocolate... spicy and some herbs come through... Alcohol could be a little better integrated. Quite ok, but doesn't knock me off my feet. Edit: after 45min in the glass it gets much better...😀
