How does this rum taste?
The "Jamaica High Proof DOK" by Compagnie des Indes is a high-ester, pot still rum from Hampden Distillery, distilled in 2009 and aged for 9 years. Notable for its vibrant, estery aroma, it evokes scents of glue, overripe fruits, and pineapples. On the palate, it delivers bold ester notes, complemented by tropical fruits and a hint of citrus. Despite its high ABV of 55%, some find it less intense compared to other Hampden releases. Limited to 409 bottles, it's a distinct offering for those seeking a unique Jamaican rum experience. However, opinions vary on its intense profile and short finish.

One of the best Hampden bottled by the India Company that I have tasted!
On the nose interestingly here rather olive brine, perry and grape jelly, overripe fermented pineapple and almond pastry. The whole thing is then repeated quite similar taste only that the olive brine (black kalamata olives) together with custard and milk chocolate and overripe pineapple and banana in the interplay. Delicious but not quite as drinkable as the 60% and not quite as fruity as the 44%! But still a terrific DOK.Here definitely the exception where I taste the reduced alcohol better than the 55% for it beats the 60er everything!😅Really exciting what so different alcohol content make!
Intense and powerful. Compared to the 12y RumClub 09 DOK, it feels like „not quite there yet“ - a couple of years more aging really pushed the rum forwards.
Second tasting: a trace of smoke or bacon is added. I correct my rating by -4 points, because I have since learned other and better bottlings. So the relation is right again. A typical representative but with turbo booster. Compared with the standard bottlings of Hampden both in the nose and on the tongue much more intense and differentiated. The rum stays on the tongue forever. I would not be surprised if I can still taste it tomorrow morning!
