How does this rum taste?
- Complex and intriguing flavors
- Bold smoky notes
- Well-integrated alcohol
The Kill Devil Trinidad Fernandes by Hunter Laing, distilled at T.D.L Trinidad in 1999, matures for 21 years with a potent 61.5% ABV. This limited release, with only 249 bottles available, delivers a unique sensory experience marked by its bold leather and oak aroma, balanced against subtle prunes, mocha, and roasted undertones. On the palate, expect smoky dominance, complemented by nuanced coffee and dried fruit flavors, with a bitter and woody finish. While the rum's standout smoky and roasted profile appeals to many, its astringency and potential whisky cask finishes have drawn mixed impressions. Overall, it presents an intriguing yet divisive option for seasoned rum enthusiasts looking for complexity.

"Nose: Roasted, dark notes are very dominat. Significantly different from the TBRC Fernandes. Palate: same again. Dark and roasted notes, some sweetness. Reminds me nothing of TDL but rather of a South/Middle American Spanish style rum. Again: very different compared to the TBCR."

"In itself a good TDL with well-integrated alcohol, but if there wasn't a part of the cask maturation at least in the Scotch whisky cask, I'll eat a broom... Unfortunately, that gives me a lot of deductions..."

"toasty smoky barrel notes, mocha and leather are blatantly dominant. A profile that I like, but others may find it too violent."
