How does this rum taste?
The Mauritius MCPA Rum, crafted in 2013 by Barikenn from sugar cane juice and aged 7 years, offers a complex profile with tropical fruit, cinnamon, and chocolate notes. With a potent 53.6% ABV, it boasts a memorable aroma dominated by tropical and apricot scents, followed by grapefruit and sugarcane hints. On the palate, its balanced integration showcases a blend of spices, fruit, woody undertones, and a pleasant dark chocolate finish. Appreciated for its fresh nose and easy-drinking quality, this limited release of 260 bottles from Mauritius receives acclaim for its layered yet approachable taste, despite lacking depth and complexity for some aficionados.

Superb, fruity with a nice spicy note. Complex but not too much. Notes of burnt wood and bourbon barrel marking. Good length.
Nose definitely on the fruit with a very pleasant roundness. On the palate, a woody dimension is added. A nice length in mouth carried by the cane, the liquorice and the dark chocolate. The alcohol is well integrated. For the price, it is an excellent bottle!
A pleasant rum, with the right degree, greedy but not too much. Just lacks a little depth and complexity.
The first impression on the nose is one of great freshness. Scents of apple, granny, a touch of pommeau too, tart apple candy at times. There's also a hint of gingerbread and chocolate, all in an agricultural vein. On the palate, it lacks a little complexity, but it's very good. It's also spicier. An easy-drinking rum to which I've been returning with pleasure for some time now. Well done to Barikenn for the cask selection, the work and the price 😃
