How does this rum taste?
RumX members highlight tropical fruit esters—banana and pineapple—wrapped in vanilla and mellow wood, with the 54.9% cask strength nicely integrated. Licorice and roasted tones add interest without overwhelming. Often enjoyed neat as an elegant Jamaican sipper, with some noting it also works in drinks. Aged 20 years and limited to 187 bottles, it’s a popular pick among 54 reviewers, though a bit tamer than some 2000 Long Ponds.

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 46,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
Very fruity funky in the nose also a lot of tropical fruits in mouth with a solid finish. The alcohol is integrated very well. Pleasant to drink. Summary: Very good long pond, but not worth 500,00€+
There I have to deduct after renewed tasting also compared to the other 2000 LP unfortunately bit.
Ok, but not fully convincing. Has the power of a young Hampden, but with more herbs and spices. Water takes a bit of the sharpness. Not so mine.
20 yo LP, it should be able to do something...Nose: fruity-ester-spicy. Intense esters at the start, accompanied by tropical fruits, papaya and pineapple, but also mealy banana and fresh, sweet lemon. The esters clearly bring vinegar as well as glue and polish. All wrapped up in tart sweetness from maple syrup. Some wood or cardboard delicately at the back. I mean, 20 years continental does not create the density and integrated sweetness as comparable 20 years tropical. 85Palate: yet different than the nose suggests. First astringent, bitter-salty, then the esters come immediately. Now comes nicely tart bitter lemon zest and pineapple. These are replaced by toasty, slightly bacony aromas. Behind that, spicy and intense licorice. The esters come in again at the back. Not a totally round LP, a bit too bitter, but the bacon licorice note is interesting. 85
