“Really cool how much Savanna & Armagnac harmonize. Lots of wood, lots of spice, some glue, red chili flakes with dark chocolate raisin, red grape and baked banana, and dark chocolate cookies. Then also a bit bitter on the finish, astringent and with lots of tannins and glue, menthol and overripe banana and strong mocha, and Really Dark Dark Chocolate. Alcohol is very well integrated and really fun to drink. Very drinkable for a Savanna! For me in terms of Savanna in the Armagnac barrel definitely the benchmark currently.”

“Ein vergleichsweise röstiger Savanna-Vertreter, was in meinen Augen aber grundsätzlich für die spannende Bandbreite der Destille spricht. Davon abgesehen bleibt hier neben den erwähnten Röstnoten primär noch etwas Frucht, Holz und Vanillesüsse aus dem Fass hängen. Gut, aber nicht kein Savanna, von dem ich mir eine Flasche wünschen würde.”

“Un superbe Savanna d’une des séries les plus reconnaissables que la distillerie ai lancé. On découvre un nez particulièrement concentré avec de belles notes boisées assorties aux épices, qui se sont parfaitement imbriquées dans le jus. Les notes de réglisse, de noix, de raisin, de cacao et de chocolat noir accentuent cette intensité aromatique. Le profil est relativement sombre et lourd, mais très élégant. L’attaque en bouche est particulièrement intense. On retrouve une forte concentration de notes rôties et d’épices (poivre, vanille, réglisse), ça chauffe au niveau du palais mais toujours avec finesse. On décèle l’influence du fût d’armagnac, les raisins, mais aussi une note d’agrumes sur la mandarine et le pamplemousse. Tabac, caramel, sucre brun et chocolat noir complètent ce profil particulièrement dense, où l’alcool est très bien intégré. En finale, on retrouve un rhum plus subtil et sur la douceur, mais avec une belle empreinte aromatique sur les notes boisées du fût de chêne, épicées sur le piment et la vanille, ainsi que des arômes plus sombres sur le chocolat noir, le café, le tabac et les notes rôties. Il y a un côté herbacé légèrement amer qui s’accompagne bien avec le thé, les fruits secs et le raisin (merci l’armagnac). Un Savanna à l’image de son étiquette, puissant, majestueux et d’une grande prestance.”

“Die Nase geht stark in Richtung Bourbon. Typische Marker von der Destillerie nehme ich nicht so stark wahr. Am Gaumen sehr fasslastig. Nachklang auch ohne Überraschung und mittellang. Insgesamt ein wenig enttäuschend.”

“This one needs to stand for a long time before the ABV stops biting on your nose and on the palate it also bites so I added some water after which it opened up a bit. I'd set the ABV integration on this one to really poor and I usually really like Savanna but this one is out of character.”

“Guter Traditionel, der aber stark vom Armagnac Fass beeinflusst wurde. Der Rum benötigt sehr lange Standzeit, um sich zu öffnen und bis der Alkohl bewältigt werden kann. Der Rum verträgt Wasser, um sich weiter zu öffnen.”

“aus der Collection Metissage den Fort Dauphin, Maputo und Madras verkostet: der Madras sticht für mich heraus, schon weil er als einziger der drei als Grand Arome einfach deutlich intensiver ist, mit herrlichen roten Früchten und Butter-Gebäck an der Nase. Bei den anderen beiden habe ich mit dem Armagnac-Finish viel Traube und Holz. Der Maputo ist mir mit seinen 64,2% etwas zu alkoholisch an der Nase, da finde ich den auf 44,8% verdünnten Fort Dauphin fast besser. Leider klappt das nicht gleichermaßen am Gaumen. Da wirkt der Fort Dauphin dann doch eher dünn.”

“Savanna Maputo Wild Island 2ème série. Il s'agit d'un rhum traditionnel donc de mélasse avec un vieillissement tropical durant 16 ans affiné en fûts de cognac. C'est le frère jumeau du Savanna Fort Dauphin mais la comparaison s'arrête là tellement leurs profils sont différents. Le Maputo titre à un degré d'alcool beaucoup plus élevé (64.2 degrés). Il s'agit de mon Savanna préféré concernant cette 2ème série de par sa singularité. Je n'ai pas connaissance d'un savanna ayant un profil aussi proche de certains Guyana Skeldon ou Enmore. En effet, une fois les notes de solvants passées après une bonne aération, des notes de caramel, de café et de chocolat dominent les débats. Une note de fraîche et fruitée de raisin vient équilibrer le tout. Bref ce Maputo est un vrai coup de cœur et fait partie de mon top 3 des rhums traditionnels hors grand arôme que j'ai goûté chez Savanna.”
