How does this rum taste?
The Caroni 1989 rum, crafted at Trinidad’s renowned Caroni distillery, is a limited release with only 392 bottles. Aged for 30 years and bottled at cask strength with a 52.8% ABV, it was selected by Isla del Ron. This rum features a nose with complex aromas of caramel, phenol, and mint, leading to a flavor profile marked by minty notes, dark chocolate, and raisin. Although lighter and smoother than traditional Caronis, it offers a unique blend with a sherry finish, appreciated for its drinkability but debated for its authenticity to the Caroni name. This rum is ideal for those seeking a rare, sophisticated experience.

Relatively clean for a Caroni. Very easy to drink. Nice malty aromas. Intense, full flavor. Could have been a bit more full-bodied for the price, but which Caroni is still cheap these days? Definitely an experience.
Relatively light and relaxed "easy sipping" caroni. Alcohol well integrated and unusually little woody and tasty for the age, sherry finish is definitely very concise but not too dominant.
Strange Caroni. Tastes like aged neutral alcohol with a sherry finish. Somehow it has nothing to do with Caroni. I would be very interested in the story behind this vintage...
This sample is a bit like a trip to the city. You're super lucky to score that Caroni girl that all the boys want. You bring her home and hope she's wild in bed, only to be disappointed because she's not. It's the same with this one, it tastes good but there's not much wildness about it. It's more the Caroni name that's wild.
