“Holy moly the claps neatly! But very horny and intense. Strong mocha, vanilla bean, raisin, discreet sherry and rum raisins, dark chocolate with fleur de sel and espresso beans and then again coconut and banana chips. Only the alcohol could be better integrated.”

“A very gourmand and expressive Foursquare on the nose, with a fruity presence (coconut, papaya, red fruit, raisin), a dry but well-melted woodiness that accompanies milk chocolate, mocha, roasted hazelnuts, sweet spices, tobacco and toasted notes. Pastry notes of caramel and toffee contrast with alcohol notes, which are quite firm even after aeration. A typical but exuberant nose. Very powerful on the palate, Foursquare is somewhat alcoholic despite the very gourmand flavors of spice, coconut, dark chocolate and toffee. Spicy oak, leather and tobacco join dried fruit for a more muscular profile. The 62% is still very much present. Finally, a long, warm, spicy, dry and alcoholic finish prolongs the power on the palate, with hints of caramel, vanilla, hazelnut and a touch of saltiness. Fruity and woody notes complete the intense, invigorating whole. One of the heaviest and most intense Foursquare wines, it pulls its weight with a few original flavors and greediness.”

“Spannendes Tasting. Und insgesamt auch sehr lecker, wenn auch für mich nicht ganz so lecker wie viellicht der Ruf der Foursquare/Velier Abfüllungen ist. Beim Triptych war mir der Holzeinfluss wesentlich zu dominant. Positive Erinnerungen an Kinderschokolade kamen durch. Beim Patrimonio Assoziationen in der Nase zu indischem Korma und Wassermelone. Aber scharfkantig und trocken. Principa fand ich erst sehr geil. Schöne Fruchtkomponenten und dennoch FS-DNA. Aber im Abgang ist mit der Alkohol zu bissig. Sassafras gefällt mit gut. Plenipotenzario sticht für mich mit Komplexität heraus. Sehr geil. Aber klarer Überflieger ist der Destino. Fruchtig, harmonisch, komplex und sehr lecker! Aus meiner Erinnerung auch einen Ticken besser als der 2006. Ob er das Geld wert ist, dass man heute zur Hand nehmen muss bezweifle ich jedoch.”

“Fierce cask/wood driven young Foursquare. Sherry influence is very noticable, but the bourbon cask had some say in it too. Good wood management! Lots of dried (red) fruits:dates/raisins. Coffee/dark chocolate. Thick stuff. Different from most of the Mark releases (Also Empery). Lots of oak/wood.”

“A full and beautiful bouquet. Fruity spicy, like a brandy. A metallic freshness with lime and slight acidity of dried and sulfured currants. A woody, slightly toasty spice with vanilla and tobacco. And fruity with cherry and coconut. I really like the nose.Intense and powerful on the palate. Spicy and somehow bitter-salty-sweet. Again this metallic with lime zest. And some dried fruit, apricot, currant, raisin. A little peppery with nutmeg vanilla and almond but also sweet like toffee. Very nice.Round , intense, great rum.”

“Foursquare Distillery 2008 Velier Principia Distilled: 2008 Bottled: 11.2017 Aged 9 Years (3Y Ex-Bourbon, 6Y Ex-Sherry) 62% One of 5400 Bottles Melasse Rum, 100% tropical ageing Farbe: Mahagoni Geruch: Riecht süß und schwer nach Sherry und Mon Cherie. Eiche mit dunkler Schokolade und Toffee, Sherry, exotischen Früchten und Gewürzen, z.B. Muskat. Geschmack: Süß und vollmundig nach Karamell, dabei cremig im Mund, beisst aber auf der Zunge. Kräftig und intensiv. Dabei würzig-pfeffrig mit Toffee, Tabak, Schokolade und Sandelholz. Rote Früchte im Hintergrund. Abgang: Mittellang und trocken. Dabei holzig und sehr würzig mit viel Tanninen. Fazit: Der Abgang ist nicht so der Reißer. Ansonsten super leckerer Foursquare, wie von Velier auch nicht anders zu erwarten. Foursquare Rums der Exceptional Cask Selection und natürlich von Velier gehen gerade bei Rum Auctioneer preislich durch die Decke. Da werden sich einige in den A... beißen, dass sie nicht früher zugeschlagen haben. 88 Punkte”
