How does this rum taste?
- Smooth vanilla and oak notes
- Good for mixing
- Classic Bajan style
The Real McCoy 5 Years Rum, distilled at Foursquare in Barbados, offers a balanced profile with notes of vanilla, oak, and a touch of dried fruit and caramel. Aged for five years in a combination of pot and column stills, it presents an approachable, albeit lighter body, making it suitable for both mixing and sipping. Users appreciate its smoothness and classic Bajan character but often seek more complexity and depth. This 40% ABV rum delivers a consistent, straightforward experience, seen as an excellent introduction to Barbados rums, though seasoned enthusiasts may find it lacking in intricacy. Ideal for those new to rum or seeking a reliable mixer.

"Woody/barrel, chocolate and a tiny bit of vanilla. The alcohol comes across as pungent. I would never purchase a bottle."
"01.05.2019 Nice tasting with friends including my slow cooked pot roast. Colour Medium dark in colour. Nose Light, light wood, faint roasted, dried fruit, caramel, light floral, spice. Palate Light, sweet, light wood, dried fruit, light floral, faint pineapple, spice, light chocolate, light caramel. Finish Short to medium, light wood, sweet, light dried fruit, faint citrus, light chocolate, faint caramel. Extra note. Surprisingly good at the age and price tag."
"super round number! nice entry Barbados rum!"
"The nose is quite roasted. Hazelnuts and oak are most prominent. The palate is quite oaky. Hints of raw licorice and cocoa. On the dry side. The finish keeps the oak and some vanilla. It is quite short though. Overall, I am a little disappointed but this is the 40% abv version. I'd say the Doorly's 5 year old might be a better buy."
