8:On the nose, the first impression we get is very roasted, medicinal, quite rigid rum. Molasses is pretty dark, vegetal, the sugar is burnt the wood is roasted, resinous, earthy and smoky. We really need to air and rest it well, to open it up and becomes truly interesting, pleasant with vanilla, caramelized nuts, toffee, nicely minty. There is some licorice. The fruits are dried and citrusy with a lemon. 8:On the palate, the attack is heavy, earthy with spices and roastedness, as the molasses is thick, syrupy and dark with licorice, roastedness brings caramel, chocolate, roasted nuts, cocoa, the wood is resinous. We get a feeling, that we taste whisky, as the finish of this rum is in Teeling casks.I must had been some younger Teeling, as it is also iodized. Nice rest brings out variety of bourbon fruits-yellow, citrus and dried and some mint. Now, it is tasty and balanced, a bit dry. 8:The finish is long, woody and dry with earthy, peaty notes, dried dates, chocolate, resinous, spicy and lemon peel... Better after nice rest. It opens up. Goes over 8....
This one is partly dominated by the barrel and the alcohol hasn't been integrated too well. Despite that it still does what it's supposed to. I left it to rest for 30 minutes after which the nose and palate improved. The nose is sharp with fruit and grassy notes. There is also vanilla and smoke and a load of bourbon. The palate is heavy on the bourbon and malt but you do get some vanilla and lemon. The finish is dry with wood and smoke and a tad of vanilla/clove.
