How does this rum taste?
Most love it as a go-to Mai Tai rum with fruity, lightly funky character and strong value; critics find it too diluted and a bit hot with limited depth neat. Consensus: mixer-first rum.
If you’re stocking a home tiki bar and like Appleton-style Mai Tais on a budget, this gives you fruity Jamaica character without needing high proof—just don’t expect a standout neat sipper.
Neat-only drinkers seeking depth or higher ABV rums with more weight and complexity in the glass.

In May Tai significantly better than pure
To me this is good neat but mixed it makes the greatest mai tai possible for under $500 lol
This rum has earned a reputation for being a tasty addition to tiki cocktails, but I think it also holds its own when enjoyed neat. While it may not boast the same prestige as a high-end rum, it's still a solid choice that won't break the bank. Its flavor profile is complex and interesting, with a hint of funk that's characteristic of Jamaican rums. At this price point, I think it's definitely worth keeping on hand in the bar.
Scored as a sipper, not as a mixer. Makes a great mai-tai.
