This is a rum from Suriname Alcoholic Beverages (SAB) in Suriname. The distillery was founded in 1966, but the history is far older than that. In 1765 there was a Marienburg Plantation and a sugar factory founded in 1882. The rum is produced in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname where SAB is located. This is a rum to mainly use in drinks and it works for example very well in a White’N’Stormy, but it’s of course possible to drink it neat and that’s what my rating is based upon. The nose dominates of alcohol, but it’s also rather fresh. At the palate and during the rather long finish it’s powerful, intense, warm, flowery and sweet.
So I'm really now what used to overproof rum. But this just does not go at all. This has nothing to do with pure sugar cane taste but is simply only neutral alcohol on sugar cane basis. Extremely sharp, extremely unclean burned and extremely alcoholic, acrid and burning. Like sucking out a leaking overheated battery.... Quite bad!🙈
