How does this rum taste?
Most enjoy its sweet vanilla, toffee and wood with decent complexity; critics find it too sweet, sharp and a bit forgettable. Consensus: a solid but not standout aged Panamanian column rum.
If you like sweeter Panamanian or Latin-style rums like Zafra but want more age and a bit more punch, this will feel familiar—just expect some extra sharpness and wood.
Those sensitive to alcohol sharpness, anyone looking for big fruity complexity, or drinkers who dislike clearly sweet profiles in their rum.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 25,000 bottlings, 270,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 50,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

It’s the best one in the “Rare Proof Series” first batch. It’s seems that Panama is my favorite country when it comes to the sweet Spanish styled Ron, cause I also like “Ron Zafra”. The nose is sweet, fruity and nutty. At the palate and during the rather long finish it’s complex, well balanced, sweet, spicy, fruity and nutty.
Compared to the 1999 this one ia a lot better. Far more punch in the flavours and wood. Still on the sweet side and kind of syrupy, without it being too dominant.
The representative confirms that this is a genuine 20-year-old and that no sugar has been added. I also think that's credible. There is a lot of dry leather, toffee, wood and some cocoa.
For 20 years this is very sharp. Sweetened although not to a massiv level. All I. All it is fine. But kind of forgettable...
