    How does this rum taste?

The "Ed. 041 Captain’s Choice Matinik" is a Martinique-distilled rum from La Favorite distillery, bottled by Les Frères de la Côte. This rum, distilled in 2015 from sugarcane juice using a Column Still and aged 4.5 years, offers a unique sensory experience. Its aromatic profile boasts apple, pear, and dried fruit notes with underlying oak and cognac hints. On the palate, earthy and peppery flavors dominate, accompanied by tropical and vegetal nuances. While some value its complexity and long finish, others find the nose subtle and price steep. Overall, it promises a nuanced tasting journey with its well-balanced, aged agricole character.

A bottle opened for the occasion. A closet nose with dust and old cellar notes. Very little on the nose, but there's vegetal and some fruit. The palate is much better, with tropical fruit and vegetal notes. A long, beautiful finish with bitters and fruit, and a lingering impression of old hemp rope. There's a huge difference between a very discreet nose and a fine, full-bodied palate and, above all, a fine finish.

Very gentle well aged agricole rhum. Not too grassy. Some hay. Woodspice well integrated. Provincial herbs. Honeycomb. Freshness. Light. Dry. Astringent. Balanced, easy but not too easy. Taste def older than its age.

26.03.2021 Sitting at home enjoying some new samples I got. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Wood, light roasted, vegetal, light sugarcane, light citrus, faint cherry. Palate Intense, spicy, wood, dried fruit, balanced, sugarcane, light olive, faint floral. Finish Long and warm, fruits, spice, oily, wood, light spicy. Extra note. Need to rest to fully release its flavours, especially the wood shines through after resting.
