I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
The nose has lots of sandal wood and spice notes. It's pleasant and smoother than expected. The palate is sweeter than the nose with butterscotch and fig being most present. The finish is medium in length and keeps the butterscotch from the palate. Overall, it's pretty middle of the road. Nothing offensive or complicated.
Tierra Madre from Guatemala. The most controversial? Because online it receives few but clearly poor reviews, and for me... it is the biggest positive surprise of the Odevie collection (apart from the red Dominican, which I haven't tried - it was advised against in the store). I have a mediocre idea about rums from Guatemala, I think I've only tried Botran in the 15yo version, about which after a few months I can still only say that "it's ok" and "I'd gladly use it in a drink" 😃. Meanwhile, Tierra Madre is my first bottle ever that so clearly "attacks" on the level of smell... with cherry. True, the second dominant sensation is alcohol vapors (despite 15 minutes of "breathing" in the glass), but this still doesn't prevent the smell from being very surprising. As for the taste, it's also good. Light bitterness countered by a very distinct taste of fruit, also with cherry standing out in the foreground. The finish fades faster than in Yellow Snake, this time leaving a phenomenal aftertaste.
