How does this rum taste?
Reviewers are drawn to the Hearts Collection - 1995 for its intense complexity and unique character, especially the robust notes of roasted wood, tobacco, and rich chocolate. Many highlight the evolving nose—starting with fruity, menthol, and leather, then opening up to dark chocolate and spice. Enjoyed as a slow, contemplative sipper, it's celebrated for its long, warming finish and balance. With high ratings and limited availability, it's revered among collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Very nice rusty, dark chocolate note! Really great nose. On the palate but a little too dry for my taste.
Solvent, polish, glue and dried fruit on the nose. Animalistic. Very complex and very dirty and funky by Appleton standards. I could smell it forever. Lots of wood and liquorice on the palate, very complex. A very long, very nice finish. Great rum, I like it better than the 1999. Edit: In the glass again for a long time. It takes a long time to open up. Definitely the dirtiest and funkiest of the Hearts series and therefore a bit out of line. If EMB 1995/97 is one of your favorites, you've come to the right place.
I have finally found the perfect chocolate to reset and enhance my palate when tasting. I can recommend the 70% chocolate from Peru made from the Chuncho Bean (Trinidad). This bottle is also a really nice one and there is no doubt that it's an Appleton Estate in the nose nor the palate. A great rum probably already sold out. It was gone here in Denmark the day it was released and the bottle prices have already skyrocketed.
Very dark notes with endless roasted aromas. Extreme chocolate note, which I like. For a better rating, however, I miss the fruit. Even blind a clear assignment of the Appleton Distillery
