How does this rum taste?
- Unique graphite and herb profile
- Aged complexity without over-oaking
- Elegant and balanced structure
The Rum Artesanal Guyana Rum VSG opens with a striking graphite and thyme character, evoking the signature “pencil shavings” that define its style. Aromas of dried herbs, mint, and subtle dried fruits intermingle over an oily, complex palate with restrained oak. Although its herbal-mineral profile is unique and not universally adored, community experts praise the balance and depth on offer. Worth discovering for fans of intense, old-school Guyanese rums.

To Enmore
"A nose of old varnished wood, sawdust and mirabelle plum alcohol. The palate plunges fairly quickly into a sort of licorice and prunes, then overripe papaya and floor wax, wood in all its forms and, very present when spotted, graphite/pencil lead. A bitter medicinal side bothers me a little, especially on the finish. The finish is long, on overripe papaya and wood in all its forms. The empty glass is marked by smoke and oak. Not a big fan of this rum, even though it tells a story of old wood, it lacks balance and deviant aromas bother me a little."
"Friends of the cultivated pencil should feel right at home here. If you like that, this is probably your highlight of the year."
"Wish you guys a good start in the new year! This is my last rum for this year. I have choosen it, because there are a lot of good rumors. So… it’s a very good rum from guyana with nice notes of thyme and graphite/pencil shaving. Very special. In comparison to the high price per value and the missing WOW effect i’ll give it a good 90 only. Nose: delicious, thyme, graphite, herbal, prunes, citrus, dried fruits, some notes of green apple, iodine, licorice 🤪, woody, almond, roasted, marzipan, cream toffee Mouth: complex, dry, astrigend, oily, full bodied, thyme, graphite, minty, herbal, bitter, tannins, licorice, oak, diluted???? Finish: long, dry, astringend, minty, thyme, herbal, iodine, tannins, roasted, leather, oak(barrel)"
"A grandiose rum that masters the balance of aromas to perfection. The triptych of herbal and tobacco notes, Demerara's typical woodiness and spiciness, and the fruitier side of the nose complete the picture. The attack on the palate is extremely delicate, with the alcohol very well integrated. The top notes are thyme, tobacco and herbs, followed by spices (licorice, aniseed, allspice), wood, nuts and fruits (citrus, dried, candied and tropical fruits). The honeyed side of the rum incenses the palate. The finish is long, warm and spicy, but is soon overtaken by floral and earthy flavors that are highly aromatic and not at all distracting. A superbly well-preserved rum that's part of the legend."
