How does this rum taste?
The MPM rum distilled in 1990 at the Uitvlugt (Port Mourant) distillery in Guyana and aged for 17 years, stands as a strong representation of limited edition Demerara rum. Crafted from molasses using a pot still, this Velier bottling is enveloped with a complex bouquet featuring spices, apple, marzipan, mango, and anise. The intense flavor profile is balanced with sweetness and spice, supported by barrel, citrus, and apricot nuances. While the robust 66% ABV expresses a noticeable alcoholic presence, its rich and intricate taste accompanied by a lingering finish attracts rum enthusiasts. With only 881 bottles released, it remains a coveted find for collectors and Demerara rum aficionados, despite varying perceptions regarding its expressiveness and pricing.

Nice PM profile, pleasant complexity, plus graphite notes on the finish, reminiscent of the Versailles style. Unfortunately, the alcohol is very present, which for me causes deductions.

11.01.2020 - 12.01.2020 Splitting some samples over two days. Notes. Dark in colour. Nose: Intense, wood, light roasted, citrus, medicinal, light marzipan. Palate: Intense, round, wood, herbs, anise, oily, citrus, licorice. Finish: Long and warm, wood, roasted, anise, dried fruit, citrus, marzipan.
It is a solid offering, but it is hardly in relation to the price...
