How does this rum taste?
- Very well integrated alcohol in this rum
- Port cask influence is well integrated
- Classic foursquare core profile
Foursquare's Détente (ECS XIV) brings together a mix of vanilla, caramel, woody spice, and fruit—especially raisin and coconut—topped off with a mellow port cask finish. RumX members frequently return to those classic notes, calling it "very rounded and full of foursquare style flavour" (Aussierumfan) and highlighting the port influence, which "forms a rich, fruity backbone" (Campbell). While the nose often draws praise for its inviting depth, the port note divides opinion—some appreciate the subtlety, others wish it made more of a statement.

To Foursquare
"Delicious nose of vanilla, cinnamon, caramel, chocolate and harmonious fruits like banana, raisin and coconut. In the mouth by the slightly lower ABV mildly sweet after caramel, yet naturally peppery, toasted and many spices. Fruit also present, which is overlaid by bitter chocolate and toasty caramel in the finish. Top rum with restrained port finish, at that time at a very good price, but today difficult to still get."
"8,6:On the nose, the first impression is immediately expressed in the form of a veil of solvent. The wood is full of all its aromas of grilled and caramelized nuts, cinnamon and roasting. There are bourbon yellow fruits like apricot, perhaps peach jam, which sticks and coats the nostrils. On aeration, the oak is tender with vanilla, toasted coconut, tobacco and sweet caramel, soft and buttery, very pleasant. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is supple from the start, delicious and balanced. The wood then releases notes like spicy oak, toasted coconut and fatty, buttery butterscotch and roasted nuts with gourmet caramel, the fruits are bourbon yellow, dried, the molasses a bit vegetal... 8,7:The finish is long, dry and woody, with all the notes from palate lingering on for a while and some red fruits from port ageing... Edit:28.3.25"
"Another tasty rum from foursquare well rounded and full of foursqaure style flavour. Tropical fruits, spicy with lots of vanilla along with touches of chocolate and caramel with the port finish coming through, A medium length finish."
"The alcohol is beautifully integrated, almost too much. Blindly, it is impossible to know that this candy is 51%."
