How does this rum taste?
The L‘Esprit Australian Rum, crafted at Beenleigh Distillery and bottled by Whisky & Rhum, is a cask-strength rum with an impressive 78.3% ABV. Distilled in 2014 and aged for 6 years, it offers a complex nose of vanilla, toffee, and woody notes. On the palate, aromas of vanilla and coconut dominate, with hints of cherry and citrus. While many appreciate its rich and intense flavor profile, some find the alcohol integration overwhelming. Users have noted its potential for evolution when given time to breathe, enhancing its robust character. This rum is recommended for those with patience and a keen interest in bold spirits.

A true Australian behemoth, this rum needs time to open up and fully reveal itself. The nose is lively with tobacco, leather and spices (pimento, pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla), but then shows a much softer side, first on caramelized notes (brown sugar, toffee), then on fruit (grapes, apple, pear, coconut, dried fruit). You'd think the alcohol would dominate, but not so much in the end. The attack on the palate is sharp and intense. However, the aromas that emerge are rather unusual: apple is reminiscent of calvados, while grapes are reminiscent of armagnac. Citrus fruits add acidity, while coconut and caramel add a touch of sweetness to the taste fire. Spices and roasted wood give a dry aftertaste, as if charred by the passage of the juice. The alcohol is not badly integrated, but watch out for the sting on the palate. The finish is warm, lifted by spices and brandy notes. Citrus, dried fruit, cherry, apple and grape give a slightly fruity finish that softens the whole. This is a rum with substance, which requires patience and a little experience to tame and appreciate to the full.
27.02.2021 A nice blind tasting in a friend's home. Bottles covered in tin foil and only numbers to match up the glass with the bottle. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Intense, light wood, fruity, berries, spice, light cherry, faint marzipan. Palate Intense, spicy, light wood, faint smoke, light marzipan, fruity, berries, light cherry. Finish Very long and warm, light wood, fruity, vanilla, faint chocolate, berries. Extra note. Needs to rest for a good while to release all of its flavours.
