Amazing Rum! One of the best ever tried. Not over aged, despite it's 35 years in Jamaica. Its an impressive and emotional rum. Beautiful, round, creamy, the alcohol is super well integrated.
I just returned from a luxury tasting I was invited to and I'm actually a bit tipsy this time because all the rums had a high proof. This tasting was Plantation extreme only and this is the last one of the six. What a way to end the evening with other rum nerd. A very nice and velbalanced complex rum with a super long fresh finish. Despite the high proof this rum doesn't really need water though you can add a drop or two.High price but also very high quality.
It's crazy, of a crazy complexity, wood, roasted fruit ultra greedy, woody, acidic notes, tobacco ... One of the most complex rums I have ever tasted ... Nugget.
This Clarendon is a monster of power, with colossal strength and extraordinary complexity. The nose requires a lot of patience to open up, but the result is well worth the effort: tropical fruit and dried fruit come first, before wood, leather and tobacco permeate the palate with powerful empyreumatic notes (smoke). The spices are lively, with cinnamon, cloves and pepper to tantalize the nostrils. Medicinal notes of nail polish and solvents lie in ambush behind molasses and caramel, creating an olfactory profile as varied as it is imperial. The attack on the palate is a veritable aromatic war. The palate is charred by alcohol at first, then fruit (dried, red and tropical fruits) adds a little roundness. However, spices rekindle the rum's flame, triggering a tannic explosion of phenolic (glue, solvents, varnish), empyreumatic (dark, tobacco, leather, smoke, smoked meat) and mentholated flavors. It's an apocalyptic deluge that transcends the palate. The alcohol takes a long time to tame, but is remarkably well integrated. The finish is interminable, with more floral, mentholated, phenolic notes and a strong astringency. The fruit is still present, underpinned by spices, oak and medicinal notes, which are as prominent as ever on the palate. Clearly the Plantation that best lives up to its name (Extreme), its most powerful profile won't suit everyone, but anyone who lingers will recognize the true value of this exceptional rum.
