How does this rum taste?
The Wild Island Edition - Lave is an exquisite 15-year-old rum produced at the Savanna distillery in Reunion, distilled from Molasses and aged in cask strength at 66.5% ABV. Limited to 420 bottles, this rum impresses with its complex bouquet, offering notable aromas of wood, strawberry, and ester, with underlying caramel and peaches. Tasting notes emphasize a vivid blend of overripe strawberries, grapes, cherry, and olive flavors, coupled with well-integrated alcohol. Users describe it as a powerful and concentrated experience with an intense, warm finish marked by esters and medicinal qualities. A true expression of Savanna's Grand Arôme style, it balances intense fruitiness with woody elegance, praised for both depth and potency.

Grand Arôme in its purest form meets wood: The barrel influence is finally not completely lost next to the fruit esters. Excellent representative of the Savanna Grand Arômes.
Super Savanna!
An intense, concentrated Savanna, as the rather flashy lava photo suggests. We get a veritable bouquet of diverse aromas, from medicinal notes (esters, glue, solvents, varnish) to fruit (strawberry, apple, raisins, tropical fruit) to spices (cinnamon, baked apple, pepper) and elegant oak. The profile is luscious, opulent and complex, living up to expectations. The attack is masterful: the full power and depth of the juice can be felt through woody notes, lively spices (cinnamon, chili, pepper), leather, phenolic notes of glue and varnish, but above all the ample, heavy fruitiness that invades the palate with strawberries, dried fruit, olive, overripe exotic fruit and citrus. This aromatic panoply is accompanied by a warmth on the palate that reminds us that we're dealing with an intense, dry, powerful rum that hides its game very well. The alcohol is really well integrated. The finish is particularly long, with a strong attachment to tropical fruits, strawberries and dried fruits, but the spicy, woody notes come with the tannins to give the finish a kick. Olive brine, medicinal notes and cognac also return in concert. A superb Savanna in its purest form, powerful and charming as can be.
This one was also really good and we all agreed that this series was overall a really good one. The nose is very fruity with tobacco and wood and there is some ester in there as well. The palate is complex and equally fruity with sugarcane and some wood/barrel. The finish is long and fruity with wood/barrel.
