How does this rum taste?
Rounded agricole with rich Port fruits
You’ll probably enjoy this if you like agricole character but want it softened by Port: lots of red fruits and wood, still easygoing enough for relaxed sipping and great for the price.
Purists wanting very dry, grassy agricole or high‑ABV power, and drinkers who dislike obvious wine or Port influence in their rum.

Bought this bottle for over a year ago from Catawiki. Rhum HSE is produced at the Le Simon distillery in Martinique. It’s distilled in a Creole column and then aged for more than 3 years in American oak barrels whereafter it’s aged for more than 8 months in casks previously used for Port wine. Overall one of the best port cask finished rums I’ve tasted.
HSE delivers always great Rums! I thought this would be more on the sweeter/porter side, opposite this is a rum where the Port Barrel had a great impact on the rum without overwhelming. I enjoyed this a lot🤤😎🤙🏻
For fans of port finishes an absolute no-brainer. HSE is one of my favorites from Martinique and the finish is very well implemented. It gives the Agricole a lot of berry fruit and red wine flavor. Definitely sweeter and less dry in the mouth than other Agricoles, but also fruitier! The finish tames the rum and makes it smoother. I like it very much!
#4995 23.12.2024 Enjoying some samples at home. Nose Port, wood, light berries, floral, Agricole, light plum, light nutts. Palate Naturally sweet, wood, light roasted, Port, medium spicy, light plum, floral, spice, light caramel. Finish Medium to long, wood, Port, medium spicy, medium dry, light cherry, spice, light floral. The empty glass has stronger port, caramel and light peach. Very smooth rum with just the right amount of port cask influence.
