"Happy to see this local distillery in Ottawa offering up a barrel strength rum, something that fairly rare on the Canadian market since it does not have mass appeal. Nose is caramel and molasses sweetness, young wood, spice, some citrus. The palate is wood heavy, with burnt sugar, some roastiness, hints of smoke, herbs and some intensity. Despite the mix of notes, I would call this complex - the wood, spice and burnt sugar/molasses qualities dominate and keep this one fairly straightforward. That said, it’s actually quite solid. Tried as a simple mixer - rum & diet - and it had the strength and character to show through."
