Tasted this high ABV rum when I visited the Saint Lucia Distillers (SLD) recently. Denros was the first rum released by the two 1972 merged distilleries, Dennery and Roseau Bay, when they became SLD. It’s molasses based, column still distilled and bottled unaged at 80% ABV free of additives. The nose is strong, fruity, metallic and spicy with scents of ethanol, coconut, banana, guava, passion fruit, iron, peppers and grapefruit. At the palate it’s intense, fruity, nutty and oily with flavors of mango, grapefruit, agave, banana, cream and coconut. The finish is medium long. It’s really a mellow beast with an ABV that’s bearing the scents and flavors very well. I really regret that I didn’t bought me a bottle.
Strongest rum I have ever tasted. Aroma is very alcoholic, so much ethanol but there is strong scent of citrus fruit juice and pepper. Taste to be honest was quite a surprise for me. The high ABV can not be missed but there is lot, I want to say coconut water, some tropical juicy fruit, banana and it felt really creamy. Finish is creamy, warm and loooong. I was so afraid to taste this rum because of the 80% ABV. Can not see the reason why the ABV had to be so high. In my opinion great rum for drinks ( I tried it with soda and lemon juice… not bad at all). But it is too strong for me.
