CDI Kaiman
Complex, evolving aromas; fruit and spice notes reward patience.
RumX consensus: a brilliantly complex nose and fruit-forward aromas meet a spicier, wood-driven palate with leather and herbal touches. The lower ABV and lighter mouthfeel divide opinions, but the evolving profile rewards patient tasters. One to try if you enjoy layered, fruit-and-spice focused rums.

How does this rum taste?
- sehr schöne Nase mit vielen roten Früchten
- very complex and very intense
- unique, harmonious blend
Kaiman by Compagnie des Indes is a 46-year-aged blend hailing from multiple countries, drawing repeated attention for its ever-changing nose: red fruits, sour cherry, leather, and even pastries pop up again and again in tastings. Many highlight the complex layering—'sehr schöne Nase mit vielen roten Früchten' (@Mentalo), 'grandiose Nase!' (@mto75)—while the palate leans heavily towards spice, fruit, and unmistakable wood. Several RumX members mention the lower ABV and thinner mouthfeel as downsides, but nuance and evolution in the glass keep folks intrigued. As @crazyforgoodbooze puts it, 'nach über einer Stunde Atemzeit zeigt er was er kann.'

"Retasting this one I admit that I would really have loved this rum to have a higher ABV because I think it would have greatly benefitted the rum. The nose is very fruity with burnt sugar and some grass to it (lile in a Jamaican rum). The palate is wonderful and has a bite on top of the fruity/spicy note. A lot of nice oak but not too much. The finish is long and slightly bitter with oak and ginger."
"an absolute grenades Vintage blend... the nose alone is already the madness. after more than an hour of breathing time he shows what he can. very oily, a light honey sweetness, almost zero woody which is very surprising for the long maturation of the rums, in addition sourly fruity after figs and blackberries, some menthol, baked banana, mango, pineapple and sage. at the very end he reminds full pot of old tawny port and is just extremely tasty and balanced. all 3 shares are well recognizable and make a harmonious blend!"
"In view of the blended ingredients, the expectation is high - but unfortunately, the rum can almost never keep up with that. Thus, not only the motive for the marrying remains obscure, but also the dilution in particular. Unfortunately disappointing, even if the rum is of course basically good drinkable."
"The nose is really nice and ever changing throughout the tasting. Actually I‘m surprised how intense and complex it is given the rum‘s pretty low ABV. Unfortunately, the rest can’t exactly hold up to the very nice nose. My main issue is the rather thin feel/texture. However, the palate is interesting and complex. It has quite a few things to discover and is in no way overwhelmed by wood. This is a very well made, elegant blend"
