Velier Caroni 4th Employees Basdeo „Dicky“ Ramsarran HTR
Plenty of menthol, fruity zing, and classical Caroni tar and rubber. Truly interesting for those who enjoy both dirty edges and tropical undertones—one to try if menthol-forward spirits intrigue you.
Martini of menthol, fruit, dirt, and woody intrigue.

How does this rum taste?
- menthol in the nose, ergänzt um typische dreckige Noten
- eine auffällige Fruchtigkeit
- Komplexer Gaumen
The 4th Employees Basdeo „Dicky“ Ramsarran HTR Caroni offers a ride through menthol-dominated freshness and “dreckige Caroni-Noten” (Joachim Guger). Tropical fruit, particularly mango and passionfruit, frequently show up behind the initial “rubbery dirty melange” @Artur Schönhütte describes. Layers of nougat, tar, and caramel weave in and out, and that powerful 64.3% ABV gives a punch that some find just “a tick too much alcohol in the nose” (Oliver). Time in the glass tends to mellow the menthol, allowing more complexity and sweetness to emerge.

To Caroni
"On the nose, freshness and menthol. Nice dirty caroni notes, nougat and then very fruity, mango and passion fruit. The long time in the barrel shows mainly through various spices. In the mouth a lot of nougat and wood. The finish is surprisingly short.Despite the pronounced Caroni notes and the 64% rather tame. Nougat, lots of menthol and lots of fruit."
"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: A striking fruitiness awaits us on the nose, which increasingly combines with Caroni-typical notes of rubber, tar and some caramel. On the palate, the aforementioned aromas are paired with a rich menthol note, the high alcohol content also comes into play and a little oxidation is recommended. Overall at a very high Caroni level, which promises exquisite quality (the tropically aged bottlings are in a league of their own). From the 2000 vintage, which is also very convincing in terms of quality, this is one of the weaker bottlings in relative terms, which is due to the alcohol not being fully integrated. Nevertheless, anyone who finds their way to Caroni with such bottlings is on an enviably high-quality path."
"Spirits Museum Tasting 29th of March 2025. Un nez complexe marqué par un côté végétal et frais. De la crème pâtissière, du goudron et du caoutchouc. Les fruits tropicaux avec de la mangue juteuse ne sont pas loin mais restent au second plan. En bouche aussi cette fraîcheur avec de la menthe assez pure se profile en avant plan. Les fruits tropicaux (mangue), un bois discret et un léger piquant et des notes d’atelier mécanique forment un second plan complexe. La finale est longue, équilibrée et sur la fraîcheur."
"Spontaneously tried two randomly selected Caronis on the terrace with Jarek while swapping samples. In the duel were the RX6598 and the RX7335. Without question, these are two top bottlings. However, I liked the 2000 bottling a little better than the 1996, as it was fruitier and fresher without skimping on the "dirty" Caroni."
