“Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: A striking fruitiness awaits us on the nose, which increasingly combines with Caroni-typical notes of rubber, tar and some caramel. On the palate, the aforementioned aromas are paired with a rich menthol note, the high alcohol content also comes into play and a little oxidation is recommended. Overall at a very high Caroni level, which promises exquisite quality (the tropically aged bottlings are in a league of their own). From the 2000 vintage, which is also very convincing in terms of quality, this is one of the weaker bottlings in relative terms, which is due to the alcohol not being fully integrated. Nevertheless, anyone who finds their way to Caroni with such bottlings is on an enviably high-quality path.”

“On the nose, freshness and menthol. Nice dirty caroni notes, nougat and then very fruity, mango and passion fruit. The long time in the barrel shows mainly through various spices.In the mouth a lot of nougat and wood. The finish is surprisingly short.Despite the pronounced Caroni notes and the 64% rather tame. Nougat, lots of menthol and lots of fruit.”

“Uhh, this is an exciting Caroni. On the nose I smell menthol, spruce, essential oils. In the mouth, the aroma is omnipresent. I feel reminded of a cold candy. When inhaled, the mouth is downright chilled. At first, I found the rum too one-sided, because not much was happening except menthol. But after half an hour in the glass, I taste again - and discover a completely different rum. Much more complex, the spruce is barely present. If I didn't know better, I could swear I had an unusual Uitvlugt in the glass.”
