“Day 2 of the Samples de Luxe calendar.Honey forest color and oily.A nose of old wood, worn leather and creosote.A lively mouthfeel in alcohol, but immediately the flavors arrive. Welcome to an English club! The butler brings a very old whisky in a crystal decanter on a silver tray. Old leather, encaustic wood, cold tobacco, fireplace... The finish is long and balanced, very woody (but I am surprised by the venerable age of this rum). A very small defect for my taste, a little too much bitterness on the finish.A rum of legend! I had bet on an old Demerara.Empty glass it is a festival of aromas.Yet less tasty than its brother with the red label.”

“Un très vieux Clarendon qui en a sous le capot. Le nez se veut complexe et assez mystérieux, presque fermé. Beaucoup de notes boisées, d’épices et de cuir se manifestent au premier abord, puis des notes toastées par la suite. Esters et colle viennent apporter leur caractère médicinal, tandis que les fruits (fruits secs, banane, agrumes) tardent à venir, ne se faisant plus remarqués qu’après aération. On est sur un profil très sombre et amer en bouche. L’attaque est puissante, portée à la fois par des notes fruitées et acides et des épices très relevées. L’amertume arrive avec le chocolat noir, le cuir et un boisé sec et intense. La puissance alcoolique ne désemplit pas malgré la réduction. Clairement un profil jamaïcain atypique et tout aussi intense que les high esters. La finale est longue, sur une tonalité sombre et tannique, avec le cuir, le piment, le fût, les notes rôties, le chocolat noir, le café et des saveurs fruitées sur les fruits rouges, les fruits secs et les agrumes. Il y a une forte astringence sur ce profil. Étonnamment plus brut de décoffrage que son cousin Full Proof avec une puissance assumée, au détriment de quelques notes aromatiques, ce Clarendon reste un profil hors du commun.”

“It smells a little closed and incomplete, clarendon tart/acid, a little flat. Heavy woody tones, but only medium to heavy(Velier 69% > Velier 63.1% > TAA&TB 62%). Sherry hints are too dominant: sour, red fruit, prunes, dry prunes, mulled wine and ginger, spicy. Although rich and full, it is extremely monotonous and unbalanced.”
