How does this rum taste?
The "Discarded Banana Peel Rum" from the Discarded Spirits distillery in the UK is a unique rum crafted with banana peels. Bottled by William Grant & Sons, it offers a distinct aroma of banana, cocoa, and brown sugar, followed by sweet notes of vanilla and dark chocolate on the palate. With an ABV of 37.5%, it has sweet, dessert-like qualities but is often noted for its synthetic undertones and alcoholic sharpness. Ideal for mixing, it appeals to those looking for an unconventional rum experience, though it may not suit traditional rum aficionados.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 46,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
Alcohol not particularly well integrated, overall somewhat artificial after rubber bananas and slightly sour. I was hoping for much more! But super tasty for cocktails and a cool idea with a zero waste background!
So this time, when ordering rum and co, I decided against a bad tasting glass and opted for a SpiritDrink. There's not much to say about this sample: sweet, alcoholic, banana and artificial. For me, it doesn't work at all neat, in an espresso, well. Will end up in the rum drawer for baking.
Nice but very sweet, good for a few but not a bottle
The nose smacks you with bananas coated in cocoa powder and brown sugar. Very sweet palate. Bananas, obviously, but more complex than the nose. Cappuccino, vanilla and cola. In the finish the cola notes take over the bananas. It a short finish though. Not terrible. It's syrupy and clogging but I'm sure it would work buried in fruit juice. Nothing on La Hechicera's Banana Rum.
