“It did not impress me at all. Disappointing. Too much alcohol and anonymous aromas. It remains a pleasant after-meal rum, but uninteresting for tasting at a certain level. I expected more from a well reviewed rum...I probably failed to understand it.”

“Leckerer Blend. Schön, wie die 5 Prozent Jamaika trotzdem gut durchkommen. Super eingebundener Alkohol. Im Teilen aber vielleicht etwas zu modrig, fast torfig. Edit: Wenn ich ihn als erstes oder direkt nach etwas milderem wie einem Barbados Rum trinke gefällt der mir richtig gut. Nach einem Schluck Hampden wird er aber modrig in der Nase und am Gaumen gewinnt Guyana komplett die Überhand, die sonst so schöne jamaikanische Note geht verloren und macht aus einem für den Preis komplexen Blend ein deutlich flacheres Ding.”

“A really successful, complex multi-island blend. The molasses is a bit too dominant for me. And in the finish comes a peaty-bitter note, which I do not like. But on the other hand, very nice!”

“One smells and tastes the share from Jamaica most clearly. Is that Worthy Park? Great nose that is very round. I just love chocolate caramel with banana :-) then maybe something from Guyana must be there? According to the manufacturer's info, there is also something from Barbados, but that goes down under the Guyana portion. Great blend!”

“Overall a quite soft navy styled rum. This 5yo rum from the Scottish IB Black Tot Rum is a blend of rums from Barbados, Guyana and Jamaica. The term “Black Tot” comes from, as most of you know, from the British tradition of giving sailors a daily ration of rum for almost 300 years. The last ration was served on July 31th 1970.”

“Un savant assemblage en l’honneur de la fameuse Tot, qui évoque les arômes des différents terroirs des anciennes colonies britanniques. On retrouve un fruité gourmand et abondant sur les fruits exotiques, les agrumes et les fruits secs, mais aussi une bonne dose de lourdeur sucrée sur le caramel et le sucre brûlé, avant de se frotter à des arômes plus sombres sur le boisé, le café et le cacao torréfiés. Il y a un soupçon d’esters qui rappelle les rhums jamaïcains. L’ensemble est bien équilibré. L’attaque en bouche se veut sèche mais délicate, avec beaucoup de notes sombres. Café, chocolat noir, tabac, épices douces (vanille), notes fumées et rôties et boisé gourmand rappellent un profil qui tire sur la Guyana. S’il perd un peu de sa palette aromatique, il en reste un rhum bien élaboré avec un un alcool bien intégré. La finale est de longueur correcte, sur un profil tout aussi sombre, doux et gourmand. Le bois, le piment, la vanille, le chocolat et les notes fumées dominent les débats, suivis du caramel et des fruits (secs et tropicaux). Elle manque peut-être un peu d’énergie sur la longueur. Un joli profil pour un rhum permanent, afin de se remémorer l’histoire, à un prix abordable.”

“Very nice blend of the three different rum styles. In the nose dominates perhaps a little more the fruity ester of Jamaica so it is in the taste already spicy and still fruity sweet. Very positive to judge is that the blend is not re-sweetened. Does not need it also absolutely. Great flavor spectacle at a very attractive price.”

“Tasted in direct comparison with the Black Tot 50, which seems much more intense and complex. The differences come all the more to bear, the longer you let both airing. The 'normal' Black Tot remains on the spot, while the Black Tot 50 very nicely brings out the toasty aromas, chocolate and dried fruit. Interestingly, the Black Tot 50 retains a more complex note even after a slight dilution - to 'level the playing field' so to speak. However, the 'normal' Tot is not bad, on the contrary, it is round and easy to enjoy.”
