Elixir Distillers of London Black Tot Rum 5yr 46,2%
Black Tot Rum is an intriguing blend crafted by Elixir Distillers, drawing on spirits from Guyana, Jamaica, and Barbados. Aged for five years, it's bottled at a balanced 46.2% ABV. Users appreciate its multi-layered aroma of tropical fruits, caramel, and vanilla, alongside a flavor profile of wood, roasted nuts, and chocolate. While some find its alcohol presence slightly pronounced, the rum is generally regarded as a solid representation of a navy rum. Its affordability and approachable complexity make it ideal for both sipping and cocktails, often praised for its value in comparison to other options. This rum appeals to those curious about unique blends without the heaviness typical of other navy rums.

“It did not impress me at all. Disappointing. Too much alcohol and anonymous aromas. It remains a pleasant after-meal rum, but uninteresting for tasting at a certain level. I expected more from a well reviewed rum...I probably failed to understand it.”

“Delicious blend. Nice how the 5 percent Jamaica still comes through well. Superbly integrated alcohol. But perhaps a little too musty in parts, almost peaty. Edit: When I drink it first or directly after something milder like a Barbados rum, I really like it. After a sip of Hampden, however, it becomes musty on the nose and on the palate Guyana completely takes over, the otherwise beautiful Jamaican note is lost and turns a complex blend for the price into a much flatter thing.”

“The Jamaican comes out most clearly. Sweet good rum.”
