How does this rum taste?
- Complex fruity and smoky notes
- Long-lasting finish
- Balanced and bold profile
Kill Devil (The Whisky Barrel) Rum from Guadeloupe, crafted by Bellevue distillery, is a prized 20-year-old expression selected by Hunter Laing. Distilled in 1998 from sugar cane juice using a column still, it's bottled at a robust 58.8% cask strength. Users praise its complex fruity and smoky profile, with aromas of caramel and dried apricot. The palate delivers dry notes, anise, and a pronounced smokiness that balances with caramel undertones. While some find it a stellar example of Bellevue creativity, others feel the cask's influence overshadows subtler flavors. This limited release, with only 245 bottles, caters to enthusiasts of bold, well-aged rums.

"Amazing how fruity this rum is especially on the nose considering it is 20 years old. Fully ripe melon, juicy cherry, banana and some burnt rubber, dark chocolate on the nose but no trace of wood. Taste then subtly woody , chocolaty, cherry but still fruity and oily fresh after tobacco and menthol as well as various citrus peels and some chocolate. Very complex Bellevue, could only be a little less bitter for my taste. Nevertheless, definitely one of the best Bellevue I had so far in the glass."

"Wow, this is a very nice one from Kill Devil. I really admire them because they're whisky makers and they can definitely finish rums as well. I have a huge selection of their rums and most are really good, especially if you look at the price tag.The nose is heavy with lots of fruits, chocolate and rubber. The palate is wonderfully balanced and complex with fruit, oak, caramel ad a lot of smoke, did I mention smoke? A dry and slightly bitter palate but in a god way. The finish is lasting for a very, very long time with a lot of smoke taking you to vanilla, lime and a tad of rubber."

"To be honest, not that great a 1998 Bellevue. There ist the middle which feels like it was overwhelmed by the char of the cask. This seems to overtone a lot of the earthy and vegetal flavours that are in the nose and right at the end of sipping. Shame!"
