#4218 19.08.2023 we had our yearly meeting among old friends. When we do this once a year its without partners, cellphones and other gadgets. Just some nice rums, a piece of paper and a pen and most fun of all, a blind tasting. The theme of 2023 was Caroni and we had a great time and spend no less then 10 hours talking and tasting. This one was a bit milder in the profile, but still pretty well balanced in the overall profile. Lightly fruity with spices and a nice caramel note. Draws nice curtains and the empty glass has some chocolate and very light coconut.
Nice pleasant vanilla note. A touch too sharp on the palate.
Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: An der Nase kaum als HTR-Caroni zu erkennen, Holz trifft auf Kakao und getrocknete gelbe Früchte. Am Gaumen dann etwas herber, durchaus ausgewogen zwischen Holz-, Bitterschokolade, dezenten Gewürzen, Trockenfrüchten sowie dezenten HTR-Aromen. Hat durchaus seine Reize, auch wenn die eher abseits des bekannten Caroni-Profils liegen.
Mein erster Caroni aus den 80ger. Die Nase ist sehr zurückhaltend. Etwas getrocknete Früchte, etwas Banane und Cocos, etwas Süße und etwas Vanille. Caroni? Fehlanzeige....nach dreckigen Komponenten muss man schon sehr suchen und findet sie dann eher hintergründig. Hier wäre ich blind nie auf einen Caroni gekommen. Im Mund ist er dann Cremig, seidig und leicht süß und da macht sich dann tatsächlich zeitgleich eine Ladung Benzin und Trockenheit im Mund breit. Direkt nachdem er weg ist, hat man davon jedoch quasi nichts mehr. Caroni auf Sparflamme, hier lohnt sich als Fan der Aufwand nicht!
