How does this rum taste?
The "Kill Devil" rum from Fiji's South Pacific distillery, bottled by Hunter Laing, showcases a unique aromatic profile dominated by rubber, solvents, and esters. Distilled in 2002 and aged for 14 years, this limited edition of 355 bottles offers a 46% ABV. The palate features medicinal notes, fruits, and spices, though some find it thinner and wish for higher ABV. The finish brings spice, wood, and raisin with subtle smoke. While its flavor profile can appear unconventional for a Fiji rum, it still manages to intrigue many drinkers with its distinctive characteristics. Interestingly medicinal flavor profile with some wood, cocoa on the nose, milk chocolate in the mouth paired with mocha. Dried fruit in the background. Untypical Fiji that is still fun to drink.
Tasted at the Rumhouse in Prague. Very nice selection, expensive prices. But excellent ambience. On the nose the way I want Fiji to be. Solvent, rubber, ester and mowed lawn. Later comes neat wood to it. Flavor likewise how you want fiji, some ester and nice fruity notes with wood and dark spices, and some pepper. Only a few percent more for a better consistency would be desirable.
Weaker than the SBS 2003 but still quite nice
08.12.2018 Had a wonderful meet up with old and new friends at this wonderful hotel. Notes. Light in colour. Nose: fresh, polish, light ester, dried fruit, spice, herbs. Palate: light, wood, fruity, medicinal, rubber, pineapple, light herbs. Finish: medium long, spice, wood, raisin, light smoke.
