How does this rum taste?
The 35 Years Old HGML rum is a remarkable offering from Jamaica's Hampden distillery, selected and bottled by Corman Collins. Distilled in 1983 using a pot still and aged for 35 years, this rum boasts an ABV of 55.3% and showcases a complex profile with intense notes of pineapple, banana, and esters, complemented by hints of mango, vanilla, and citrus. Users frequently describe its aroma and taste as intricately balanced, highlighting a notable integration of tropical fruit and subtle smoke. Despite its high alcohol content, the rum is appreciated for its smooth, rounded finish and richly layered flavors. This limited edition, though costly, is considered a worthwhile indulgence for connoisseurs and collectors on platforms like RumX.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
Dense, complex on the nose with lots of tropical fruit and (pleasant!) solvent. The great impression continues on the palate. Insanely complex and delicious Hampden. The 35 years of maturation have made the rum incredibly round and elegant. There is an exciting smoky note on the finish. Excellent Hampden!
Corman Collins is pretty good at picking their casks and this one is no exception. An intense profile with fruits and roasted wood. I'd say the roasting notes are close to burnt and it leaves a really nice smoky note in the empty glass. Made a note that the empty glass also had marzipan and caramel.
A great Hampden. Delicious, on the fruit with a hint of smoke and sweetness.
