AVERAGE VALUE
Introducing the Black Tot Rum Demerara Aged 40 Years, a rare and unique rum produced at the Port Mourant distillery in Guyana. Distilled in 1975 from Molasses and aged for a remarkable 40 years, this cask strength rum is bottled at 44.2% ABV by Elixir Distillers of London in a limited release of only 300 bottles. Our community members have noted splendid and complex aromas of musty, barrel, tobacco, cinnamon, and spice. Its flavor profile is characterized by bitter, musty, oak, smoky, and cigar notes. While some users find it to have a slightly bitter and thin taste, others deem it an incredible and historic navy rum that has robust aromas and a rich finish. This rum truly embodies the essence of Guyana's spirit with its intricate flavors and long-lasting aging process.

Ingenious Navy Rum you notice the long maturation. In the tasting comparison, most found the Last Consignment better, I personally liked the 40Y due to the even stronger maturation that you notice clearly in comparison better. Less fruity, but woodier, mustier than the Last Consignment. Arr!

Fantastic nose, unfortunately, the rum does not quite keep up on the palate. In the mouth, the rum - despite the very present bitterness - unfortunately seems a bit thin. Whether this is due to the proud age or the not quite so high alcohol content is difficult to judge. But I can not get rid of the impression that there was potential for more here.

Had a lovely 1975 tasting today so I had to bring some of my gold as well :-) This one has been hyped way too much and the price far from matches the quality. In my opinion this rum has been aged to death.

Very special bottle indeed. The high age is very much noticeable and defining for this PM. While I think this is very enjoyable, I can understand any notion claiming this to be over aged.

Guyana Concentrate. Liquid history. 🤯Slightly too bitter for a top rating.

The nose is very spicy with lots of vegetable broth and wood. On the palate, a lot of bitterness and wood, very little typical Port Mourant DNA. Unfortunately, a bit thin to it.
