How does this rum taste?
Black Tot Rum Demerara Aged 40 Years is a rare treasure from the Port Mourant distillery in Guyana, aged to perfection over four decades. This limited-edition rum, with just 300 bottles available, showcases a complex profile with prominent notes of barrel, tobacco, and anise on the nose, transitioning to a taste dominated by bitter raisin and woody mustiness. Distilled from molasses and bottled at cask strength of 44.2% ABV by Elixir Distillers, it intrigues both rum aficionados and collectors. The predominantly woody and aged characteristics, paired with a touch of chocolate and burnt caramel, deliver a unique drinking experience—though some find it slightly over-aged or lacking in depth. This makes it a compelling option for discerning palates.

The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
Ingenious Navy Rum you notice the long maturation. In the tasting comparison, most found the Last Consignment better, I personally liked the 40Y due to the even stronger maturation that you notice clearly in comparison better. Less fruity, but woodier, mustier than the Last Consignment. Arr!
Fantastic nose, unfortunately, the rum does not quite keep up on the palate. In the mouth, the rum - despite the very present bitterness - unfortunately seems a bit thin. Whether this is due to the proud age or the not quite so high alcohol content is difficult to judge. But I can not get rid of the impression that there was potential for more here.
Had a lovely 1975 tasting today so I had to bring some of my gold as well :-) This one has been hyped way too much and the price far from matches the quality. In my opinion this rum has been aged to death.
Very special bottle indeed. The high age is very much noticeable and defining for this PM. While I think this is very enjoyable, I can understand any notion claiming this to be over aged.
