How does this rum taste?
RumX members highlight the value and lively citrus‑vanilla character of Don Q Single Barrel (2009, 10 years, 49.25%). Orange peel, dried apricot and spice on the nose flow into a sweet‑spicy palate with cask‑strength backbone and light wood. Enjoyed neat or even in a rum and coke. While a few note some alcohol heat, 46 reviews describe an approachable Puerto Rican sipper with rising community confidence.

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
Times not high-level rum and still without additives... you can try. Did not know Don Q yet. Clearly a representative of the Spanish style.Nose: fruity-woody and as the first light cigar tobacco, wrapped in vanilla and toffee. The fruit goes in the direction of green apple with some lemon. Seems quite light overall, the alcohol stings a bit despite being only 49%. Fairly ok. 72Palate: spicy-woody and tobacco here as well. A bit spicy at first though and slightly salty-bitter, pepper with a hint of caraway. Overall a bit short and flat. 68Not bad, but not interesting enough either. The tobacco note, however, I find quite good.
Nothing night
It smells relatively strong of alcohol, fruity and sweet, somewhat spicy. The taste is strong, spicy and slightly sweet, pleasant. The alcohol comes through even more strongly in the finish.
Normally I don't like Don Q as such because they're too sweet, but this release is really nice. Cask strenght really adds to the overall profile. Fruity, sweet and spices mix very well with the light wood. Price to quality is very good and I may buy a few because it's a very good beginner rum as well.
