How does this rum taste?
- Fruity and fresh notes
- Interesting wood nuances
- Warm palate after resting
The Indian Ocean Stills Savanna 2012 Rum, produced in Reunion and bottled by Velier, stands out with its cask strength potency at 61% ABV. Distilled from sugar cane juice using a column still, this limited edition (1,117 bottles) offers a distinctive profile. It features aromas of solvents, glue, and mango, alongside flavors dominated by solvents, alcohol, and peaches. While praised for its fruity and warm palate, users often find the alcohol integration lacking, impacting the overall balance and complexity. Its notable intensity is accompanied by polarizing roasted wood and bittersweet notes.

"Distinct alcohol note, which hardly diminishes even after a longer period. Rather unspectacular and edgy compared to standard Savannas. Also not really complex. Bitter although the wood does not predominate is special."
"Better than the Indian Ocean sister bottling of Chamarel, but also here comes across a little too less that lifts the rum over the threshold of sheer complaisance. Although there are a little more edges and corners (worth mentioning is the interplay of black tea with the fruity notes, which leads to an interesting melange of fruit, spice and bitter notes) - but in the end the whole remains a little too little complex. Probably a few more years of storage would have helped to enhance the flavor profile - so the rum remains too unspectacular to be remembered."
"The alcohol is not integrated. Taste of Savanna unshared cask is there, but too much alcohol over it"
"This one is pretty good especially when looking at the price tag at release. Fruity and fresh as well as warm on the palate once rested for a good while. I love the roasted almost burned wood notes on the profile."
