“The base in this rum is a 5yo blend from Guyana and Barbados aged in the Caribbean. I’ve tasted this blend and clearly recognize Demerara. After that it’s aged for 3 Solera years in Spain in Dos Cortados Sherry (very dry) barrels. Thereafter it’s aged for 2 more Solera years in former PX Sherry (very sweet) barrels. Have also read that they add a little PX Sherry (unconfirmed). These two years and the eventual added flavors give it an significant sweet Sherry taste that I don’t appreciate.”

“Really sweet. Lot's of chocolate, cocoa and coffee in both taste and smell. Hint of raisins on the background but to me I have and always will remember this rum as a cocoa and coffee flavour. It is a nice sipper. Full body, lots of flavour, short to medium finish. Great value for the money.”

“ja, sehr deutliche Sherry Noten, aber nicht so super dominant wie manche sie empfinden. Die Frage der Süßung scheint ein Rätsel zu sein, der Abfüller behauptet, dass keinerlei Zucker hinzugegeben ist und der Zucker allein aus den Sherryfässern in den Rum gelangt. Bei der Menge habe ich daran aber so meine Zweifel. Lecker isser aber!”

“Nose is sweet and reminiscent of port or sherry which is a leading indicator of what is to come. The mouth is sweet and sickly, immediately too much and in to rum liquor territory. The main mouth notes are raisins and sugar with a medium finish with treacle and wine on the end of the mouth. Ultimately it is too sweet for me, it’s like a Madeira or Port with some rum elements and doesn’t quite come together in a package that I want to drink”

“Le Dos Maderas PX 5+5 est un rhum au triple vieillissement. Le premier vieillissement de 5ans, tropical, de la Barbade et la Guyana, très anglais donc. Ensuite 5ans de plus en Espagne, 3 ans dans des fûts de Palo Cortado, ensuite 2 ans de plus dans des fûts de sherry Pedro Ximenez. Un rhum intéressant, grâce à ses multiples vieillissement et provenance, il permettra de passer de rhum plus classique à des rhums plus complexes.”

“Milder süßer Rum, das PX Cask hat deutlichen Einfluss genommen wobei ich denke dass auch nachgesüßt wurde. Bei der Farbe wurde auf jeden Fall nachgeholfen. Für mich zu süß aber vielleicht genau das richtige für Einsteiger.”
