The Little Distiller Caroni Ultimatum Rum HTR 1998

What a horny board! Dirty aromas that are typical of Caroni, but also red berries and spices. Very nice :)

Very pleasant, relaxed Caroni. I could drink it every evening. It was worth it that I was able to buy a bottle on the first market this year at a reasonable price. Update 2023-11-29: Tasted again, this time against RX17793. The Ultimatum is much stronger and dirtier and I like it better. The 89 points awarded at the time still stand.

A nose that proudly displays its HTR provenance from Caroni. The tar and diesel notes are clear, while the other aromas (tropical fruit and herbal notes) add complexity. A lively attack where the alcohol supports the aromas without mixing them. Fruit takes center stage here, with apple, star fruit and even a touch of cherry. The mechanical workshop aromas support and deepen the other aromas. The long, complex finish is the perfect extension of the palate, giving this rum a great deal of harmony.

Relatively fruity on the nose but with chocolaty Caroni notes. Much dirtier in the mouth, rubber, slightly cinnamon, tobacco, leather and milk chocolate. The finish is oily and complex if you let it breathe for a long time. Good round 98 Caroni. Very accessible but still present in the profile.

Beautiful Caroni with the classic gummy notes supported by wood and strawberry notes. The nose is dominated by the smell of bicycle inner tubes. Alcohol should be more nicely integrated.

The perfect starter caroni. Interesting strawberry-cream-candy note.

Red fruits and a bit sweeter than expected.

Sehr schöner kontinentaler Caroni. Dennoch kein Vergelich zu jeglichen tropischen Veliers. Hiermit kann man auch Rum- und Caroni-Beginner begeistern, da er zwar mit typisch drecking Noten aufwartet, diese jedoch dezent integriert sind.

Also a more approachable early 98 Caroni showing distinctive notes of berries. Enjoyable but lacks some of the more dirty notes.

Walks somewhat between worlds - on the nose still quite fruity, plus typical Caroni gum notes. On the palate then noticeably more intense, tar and heavy spice notes come to the wood and rubber and move the fruit notes clearly in the background. The fruits come into play again in the finish - quite independent in profile, a decent Caroni, but overall lacks a bit of finesse.

Rather sweetish berry profile and not too dirty. Lots of caramel and strawberry cream candy. Overall, however, it's a little too thin and too soft and goes away too quickly.
