How does this rum taste?
Most love its wild olive‑brine, cane and mineral profile with surprising depth. Critics find it aggressive, dirty and very earthy. Consensus: a distinctive, solid Haitian clairin for developed palates.
If you enjoy other Clairin Vaval or rustic agricoles, this will likely click—same wild olive, cane and salt profile, just a touch more approachable but still unapologetically dirty.
Beginners, those expecting smooth sweetness, or drinkers sensitive to rustic, funky aromas and a slightly aggressive, earthy profile in an unaged rum.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 25,000 bottlings, 270,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 50,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

Nez typique sauvage herbacé poivré fruité
Dirty like many Clairins. These Haitian rums are not for sensitive palates. They can be aggressive just like this Vaval, but tasting after tasting you learn to appreciate and love them. If aerated for a while it is better.
Like any Haitian stinker, this one is a must try. The aroma is fruity, citrusy, salty, cane-like. For me, it's one of the most accessible white rums from Haiti. Saltiness, fruit, cane, minerals and much more in the taste.
Exciting earthy sake notes on the finish. Very green in taste and the nose has the typical olive notes of a Clairin in my opinion where it is rather the olive water.
