A rather complex rum that I chose for the birthday of my wife, who was born the same year. First tasting in a jacuzzi, it was great! The nose is very pleasant, soft, fresh and fruity. After a little aeration, you can almost dive in to appreciate all the aromas. There's also a light, damp woodiness. The palate starts out intensely fruity, before giving way to a peppery freshness. The mid-palate is fairly flat. The finish then becomes earthier, with tea, leather and bitter almond. Throughout, there's a lovely brown sugar that accompanies all this and takes on a burnt edge on the finish. Some aromas are not easy to appreciate (medicinal, bitter)!
Another freat rum that is extremely rare now. I was lucky to get a sample and at the time of release the price to quality was very good. You may still be able to get it at auction for an OK price. Very fresh and floral with fruits and leather. Lightly dry, complex and intense in a way. If you get the chance give it a go.
A great nose for this old Montebello, unfortunately the palate is too weak to be great. Wood, leather, spices, some agrumes are to be found both when nosing and at the palate. When drinking also the distillery typical burnt hazelnut is there.
