How does this rum taste?
Saint James Blanc Rum, hailing from Martinique, is crafted from sugar cane juice using a column still, allowing it to maintain a robust ABV of 55%. Users appreciate its fragrant, floral, and fresh profile, with prominent sugarcane and fruity notes. Despite its strong aroma, opinions vary on its neat drinkability, with some recommending it primarily as a mixer, particularly in cocktails like the Ti’Punch. Complexities include vegetal and earthy undertones, with a medium to long warm finish. Ideal for both sipping and cocktail crafting, it's noted for balancing simplicity and intrigue, making it a versatile option for rum enthusiasts.

A surprisingly fragrant nose for a supermarket rum. It's dry but fresh at the same time, with lovely floral and grassy notes, before sugarcane and exotic fruit come in to reveal a little sweetness. There's a hint of spiciness that tantalizes the nose. It's not the deepest nose ever, but you can smell it. On the palate, the rum is quite accessible despite its 55%. Sugar cane and candied fruit give it plenty of sweetness, while floral and grassy notes permeate the palate with freshness. Lime and spicy notes enhance the whole. Simple but effective. The finish is fairly short, but the freshness of the floral and herbal notes remains with the sweetness of sugarcane and fruit. This may not be the most complex, aromatic rum around, but for a supermarket rum, it serves its purpose well. It also goes very well in cocktails.

This standard AOC Agricole Blanc from Saint James in Martinique doesn’t offer anything special. It’s just OK neat, but works well in a Ti’Punch. The nose is fresh, spicy and floral with scents of sugarcane and honey. At the palate and during the medium long finish is spicy, floral and fruity with a flavor of pepper.
